Assistant Director of Compliance and Building Safety

Salary: Circa £90k per annum

We’re now looking for an exceptional leader to join us as Assistant Director of Compliance & Building Safety - a critical role that will shape how we deliver safety, compliance, and customer assurance across our organisation.
About the Role
As our Assistant Director of Compliance and Building Safety, you’ll provide strategic and operational leadership across compliance, building safety, and managing agent services.
You’ll ensure we meet and exceed our regulatory obligations while delivering excellent, customer-focused safety services.
From leading compliance programmes to shaping our “Building a Safer Future” approach, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring every customer feels safe in their home.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading our approach to asset compliance and building safety, covering gas, electrical, fire, asbestos, legionella, lifts, and more
- Ensuring 100% compliance through robust systems, data (the “golden thread”), and performance monitoring
- Driving a zero-tolerance culture for health and safety risks
- Overseeing procurement and contract management, ensuring strong performance and value for money
- Acting as a key contact with the Building Safety Regulator
- Developing KPIs and early warning indicators to manage and improve performance
- Leading high-performing teams and supply chains, embedding a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Managing budgets and ensuring efficient, cost-effective delivery
- Supporting delivery of our Asset Management Strategy and long-term investment plans

About you
- CIH Level 5 (or equivalent with CIH top-ups), or willingness to work towards
- Extensive experience in construction or a related field, with a strong track record of managing compliance and safety across large property portfolios
- Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop high-performing teams
- Strong leadership and motivational skills
- In-depth knowledge of compliance and health & safety regulations
- Demonstrated experience managing substantial budgets and delivering value through effective procurement
- Excellent negotiation, decision-making, and communication skills, with the ability to navigate complex situations and build effective stakeholder relationships
- Strong IT literacy, including MS Office and asset management systems
- As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, flexibility to work outside normal hours where required, including occasional evenings and weekends may be required
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use

A Teams interview with the Executive Director of Assets & Compliance and another member of the Senior Leadership Team. You’ll learn more about the role and team, and we’ll get to know you – your experience, goals, and what you bring.

Stage 2: A Place to Show Your Strengths
You’ll deliver a presentation to the panel and have your final behavioural and scenario-based interview focused on how you apply your knowledge to real-life situations. You'll be asked to complete a Congruity Questionnaire in advance.
Planned date: 7th or 11th August at our Bradford office or 12th or 13th August at our Peterborough office.
