Contentious Probate & Trusts Team

Our highly regarded CP&T team advises on a full range of issues that can arise in relation to an estate or trust. This may include challenges to the validity of a will, contentious estate or trust administration, claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family & Dependants) Act 1975, proprietary claims, actions arising from breach of trustee/executor duties and claims under the Trusts of Land & Appointment of Trustees Act 1996.

The Role

As part of their continued growth and success over the last 12 – 24 months, our CP&T team are looking to expand their offering in Norfolk and Norwich. Working closing with the partners and other senior lawyers, the successful candidate will be involved in the full range of services offered by the CP&T team.

Applications are strongly encouraged from ambitious solicitors or CILEx lawyers with 0 - 2 years’ PQE, ideally with at least 6 months’ experience in a similar role.

Applicants must also have a willingness to learn and develop, good communication and social skills and plenty of drive and enthusiasm to help us provide a first-class client service. There are also excellent prospects for career development within the team for the right individual. The successful candidate will be actively encouraged to contribute to business and practice development activities.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Conduct meetings and interviews with new and existing clients
  • Proactive management of client matters from inception to settlement (with supervision)
  • Liaising with experts, witnesses, counsel, court staff and other third-parties
  • Assisting partners and other senior lawyers with their caseloads
  • Preparing detailed and technical reports, correspondence and court documents
  • Conduct legal research
  • Keep up to date with law and practice and develop own experience and expertise through focused training
  • Assist in the development of long-term client relationships
  • Maintain effective file management to ensure compliance with all relevant policies and procedures
  • Support business development initiatives and attend events on behalf of the CP&T team and the wider firm
  • Offer support to developing trainees and paralegals
  • Preparing updates and case studies, as appropriate, for internal and external marketing including for use on the firm’s social media platforms and website
  • Work in accordance with the firm’s core values.

Skills and behaviours required

  • 0 – 2 years’ PQE (or equivalent)
  • Experience of contentious probate and trusts would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules 1998
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure of deadlines, to prioritise and manage a caseload and deliver effective solutions
  • Have a solution-driven and client-focused approach to matters
  • Ability to work well as part of a high-achieving focused team and on your own initiative
  • Strong legal and analytical skills with a keen eye for detail
  • Active in building relationships with colleagues internally and key external sources with a view to increasing referral opportunities
  • An interest in developing your own experience and expertise through focused training
  • Excellent organisation and time-management skills
