Tax Accountant - Bury St Edmunds

The Trusts and Tax Team 

Our highly regarded specialist team works with clients on personal tax affairs and the administration of trusts.  Our team remove the stress of completing annual accounts, tax returns, HRMC compliance and dealing with day to day requests from beneficiaries for funds.   The team is experienced in dealing with the tax affairs of individuals and those who may be a client of our Court of Protection team, whereby a Deputy or an Attorney may act on their behalf.  

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Tax Accountant to join our Individual Client team to provide proactive taxation advice to our clients, specifically to work on Personal Tax matters and Estate and Trust matters. You should have strong experience within Tax Accountancy across the board and confident in working with Private Clients, Executors and Trustees.

Your role will comprise:

  • Preparing tax returns for private clients
  • Preparing 60 day capital gains tax returns in respect of disposals of residential property
  • Advising clients on income tax and capital gains tax matters, including advising on tax planning and mitigation
  • Calculation of tax liabilities and advising on payment of tax due under self-assessment
  • Advising clients on stamp duty land tax
  • Preparing estate accounts and dealing with the period of administration income and capital gains tax
  • Finalising a deceased individual’s lifetime tax affairs
  • Preparation of tax deduction certificates
  • Preparing Inheritance Tax forms as required for trusts
  • Working with our French Property Team regarding UK individuals with French properties and assets
  • Providing advice on tax queries to support Lawyers from all departments
  • Promotion of our Trust and Tax service
  • Supporting and training junior members of the team 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experienced in tax and trusts accounting matters
  • ATT, ACA, ACCA, or TEP qualification essential
  • Experience of complex estate and trust accounting
  • Experience of Overseas Domiciles taxation
  • Knowledge and experience of UK taxation of individuals, estates and trusts
  • Excellent communication skills, both written & verbal
