Salary: £8.41 - £9.39 per hour, 40 hours average per week, (£17,493 - £19531 per annum) linked to competency and qualifications.

Position:               Support Workers (Children & Young People)

We are currently looking for a number of Support Workers in Westbury Park, Bristol where our Aurora St Christopher’s children’s home supports children and young people aged 5 to 19 years with severe and complex difficulties including those on the autistic spectrum and with physical and sensory needs.

Overlooking the downs; this impressive five-acre site close to Bristol City centre, provides flexible learning and living accommodation with six residential houses and two flats to support differing levels of need.

Key Responsibilities:

The key to this role will be ensuring that all our children and young people receive a high standard of care whilst living and learning in a safe, clean and homely environment where they are encouraged to be as active as they can be in their local community; encouraged to try new things and do the things they really want to do.

There is no typical day; you will be allocated to a house where you will work as part of a team to support the children through their daily routine. You will help the children get up, washed, dressed and fed and escorted to our onsite school. Outside of class you will take an active role in supporting a wide range of leisure activities (such as music and swimming) and a variety of independent living skills. You will also be expected to liaise with parents, guardians, House Managers and Class Teachers as required and provide support for health checks and specialist appointments.

With full training and continued support you will take responsibility for the care of their clothes, bedrooms, personal belongings and ensure that all their medical needs are met at all times including the administering and recording of prescribed medication.

Naturally; you’ll understand what ‘good care’ looks like and be committed to the safeguarding and welfare of the children and young adults in our care.

Experience:

It is a tough yet rewarding role; we are looking for people with a passion to build relationships and positively change the lives of the children that we work with. It is therefore essential that you have had some experience (either through your personal life or working practice) of caring for others.

If you do not already have a QCF Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare but believe this role is right for you, then we will provide the support (and cover the costs) for you to achieve this; and will continue to support your development throughout your career with us.

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:

  • NVQ/QCF Level 3 Diploma or equivalent for Children or willing to work towards achieving this.
  • Experience working within special needs and/or support/care roles (either in a paid or personal environment).
  • A positive and creative approach in meeting children’s needs.
  • Good interpersonal and team working skills.
  • Literacy skills.
  • Able to work within the parameters of the physical demands of the job role.
  • Be able to work within a rota pattern (which includes evenings, weekends and some unsocial hours).
