Hours: 35 hours per week, five days a week (may include some evening and weekend working)

Salary: £19,250 - £21,000 pro-rata for 35 hour week. (£22K-£24K FTE = 40 hr week)

The Aurora Group is an innovative provider of education and care for children and young adults with special educational needs and disabilities.

Due to our continued expansion; we’re currently looking for a Skills Tutor in Meldreth (near Royston) where our Orchard Manor Adult Skills Centre provides education, care and therapeutic support for adults (aged 18-30) with severe and profound learning and communication difficulties associated with conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, brain injury and degenerative disorders.

The role:

Your role will be to plan, deliver and evaluate a wide range of practical activities that enable our young adults to learn skills that prepare them for the next stage of their lives.

Working as part of our multi-disciplinary team; it will be your responsibility to assess our students to identify short, medium and long term aims, objectives and aspirations to then plan and organise activities to enable them to achieve these outcomes.

The key to this role will be your ability to provide individualised, purposeful programmes and learning opportunities for those using the service; enabling them to be as active as they want to be in their local community, encouraging them to try new things and the things they really want to do as independently as possible.

You will also be expected to continually review the programme to ensure it is fit for purpose, engaging, challenging and fun!

Experience: 

Successful candidates are likely to demonstrate:

  • The ability to plan and deliver effective, engaging and fun sessions and an understanding of the needs of the young people who use our service.
  • The ability to keep accurate, detailed written and electronic records
  • Able to judge and write meaningful outcomes in consultation with young people with learning difficulties
  • Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate learning programmes
  • Ability to be proactive and creative as a practitioner
  • Able to work under pressure
  • Physically fit to meet the requirements of the role

Experience of the following is highly desirable (but not essential)

  • Teaching or training qualification
  • Level 3 qualification in Health or Social Care or equivalent
  • Working with young adults with complex physical and learning difficulties

Please note that associated benefits will be pro-rata in line with the reduced hours (40hrs to 35hrs).
