Aurora is an innovative provider of education and care for children, young people and adults with special educational needs and disabilities. We are currently looking for a motivated and experienced Senior/Specialist Occupational Therapist to join the Multi-Disciplinary Team based at Hedgeway School.

Aurora Hedgeway School supports children and young people aged 7-19 years old with communication and associated difficulties, typically as a result of autism or Asperger’s Syndrome. These difficulties can impact on their emotional well-being and behaviour and create barriers to learning.

A friendly and experienced team of therapists are based at the school, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychologist and therapy assistants. The therapists, school and care staff work closely together to provide all-round care and support to meet the needs of each pupil. The children attending the school present with a range of conditions and functional abilities, including those on the autistic spectrum with, sensory and attachment needs.

The Role:

The post holder will be responsible for the development and provision of a specialist assessment, treatment and advice for school and care staff to enable the children to develop and reach their full potential.  This post represents an excellent opportunity to work as part of an experienced multi-disciplinary team and specialise in a challenging and rewarding area of occupational therapy practice

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council
  • Desirable membership with RCOT and CYPF SS.
  • Experience working with children with autistic spectrum conditions
  • Knowledge of assessment and intervention approaches for children with autistic spectrum conditions
  • CAMHS experience is desirable
  • The ability to work closely and effectively with the MDT, parents and others in order to support children.
  • The ability to create, implement and review therapy care plans
  • Knowledge of current intervention policies, practice and national drivers
  • The ability to work autonomously, flexibly and under sometimes challenging conditions
  • Enthusiasm, motivation, imagination and initiative
