Balliol College

Balliol was founded in 1263 and is now one of the larger Oxford colleges, with approximately 380 undergraduates and a similar number of graduates in residence at any one time.  Job description

  • Daily cleaning of offices, teaching rooms and communal areas as directed
  • Daily disposal of waste and recycling
  • Daily cleaning of communal areas and facilities
  • Cleaning each student study bedrooms once per week
  • Reporting damage, breakages or any other related problems to the Head Housekeeper or Team Leaders
  • Deep-cleaning of all areas at the end of term in preparation for conference guests
  • Ensuring that equipment and materials are used responsibly and in compliance with College risk assessments and COSHH regulations
  • Daily servicing of rooms during conference periods, including bedroom set up
  • Any other duties as directed by the Head Housekeeper or Team Leader

The Housekeepers are expected to let the Head Housekeeper know if they have any concerns about the welfare of any students resident in their area of responsibility.

Housekeepers are required to report any breaches of College rules to the Head Housekeeper or Team Leaders.

Housekeepers are to report any damage to College property and report any Maintenance issues to the Maintenance Manager.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the College's organisation and the overall objectives of Balliol College.

Person specification

  • Physically fit
  • Experience in a scouting role or similar
  • Ability to multitask and work well as part of a large team
  • Good spoken English

 

FURTHER PARTICULARS

Holiday:  The postholder will receive paid leave entitlement of 30 working days (in addition to Bank Holidays) during a complete holiday year, five of which are taken around Christmas and New Year. 

Probation and notice: The probationary period will be twelve months, during which time the length of notice is one month on either side, given in writing.
