Our Furnishings division, BD Living, supply and install fitted bedroom furniture on our housing developments in our customers’ new homes nationwide, from cutting edge designs to contemporary classics. BD living also support our Sales & Marketing teams, creating the layout, design and installation of furniture in our Sales Centres nationwide. Our in-house Production Facility at Bardon, Leicestershire is the hub of our manufacturing and assembly of our products.

Production Operative:

You will combine in-house training at our Production Facility in Bardon, Leicestershire, helping to manufacture and assemble our bedroom furniture and sales centre products.

For this role you will be an integral part of our business and you’ll need to enjoy working with your hands, problem solving, be a great team player and have a highly motivated and quality focused attitude. Time management and adaptability will be key to these roles to ensure we deliver the highest service to our customers, so understanding the importance of customer service is an important part of this

HOW THE SCHEME WORKS AND WHAT YOU’LL GET

Our Apprentice programme is run in partnership with Stephenson College in Coalville, Leicestershire. It mixes college study with practical on-site training with experienced trade specialists, and a programme that goes well beyond the standard syllabus.

Once you’re accepted, you’ll start an eighteen month structured Intermediate Apprenticeship in Fitted Interiors (Construction) You’ll learn at our Production Facility, and in a locally approved college – and you’ll be learning all the time. At the end of the eighteen months, you’ll have loads more experience and valuable job skills, plus a nationally recognised apprenticeship qualification. And that’s just the beginning. Once you’ve completed your eighteen months, there are plenty more options available to you, you will have the opportunity to pursue your career and continue to learn with the support of skilled trade specialists through our training facility at BD Living in Bardon, Leicestershire.

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

You’ll gain a nationally recognised qualification and trade specific training.

WHAT WILL I BE RESPONSIBLE FOR?

  • Acquire and demonstrate the core skills, knowledge and behaviours required to become a competent Production Operative, which would include some understanding of working drawings/design layout/site measures.
  • Have a collective understanding of the Production roles and their function.
  • To work with a Supervisor to learn and develop trade skills.
  • Communicate with colleagues and in-house teams politely, and comply with Barratt Group Standards, policies and procedures.
  • Produce high quality of workmanship in line with the Barratt Group standards.
  • Safe working, use of correct protective clothing and equipment as appropriate.
  • To maintain the high standards of customer care.
  • To maintain the high standards set by Stephenson's College and BD Living.
  • Achieve at least 90% attendance.
  • Complete an evidence log of on the job training to demonstrate practical competence in your role.
  • Attend necessary training sessions and complete practical assignments to achieve a pass mark in the relevant qualification.

PERSONAL CHARACTARISTICS / QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

There’s plenty of studying to be done too, so you’ll need a good all round education. There are no set entry requirements to train as an apprentice, although GCSE Grades in Maths, English and Technology will be beneficial for calculating angles and measurements. There’s lots of learning to be done so you must be enthusiastic and be willing to learn even more. Last but not least, we’ll be looking for plenty of energy, initiative, good communication skills and lots of commitment too.
