The pitch 

Make an impact where your financial expertise will shine. You will be at the heart of our financial operations; responsible for bookkeeping, accounts payable, production of annual audited financial statements and internal controls on financial reporting (ICFR) compliance, monitoring and audit. With the trust of our trusted outsourced providers, you will also manage tax filings and company secretarial duties. This role will report into the parent company (UK) where the accounts will be reviewed and is supported by an Accountant in Bengaluru.


Team and role overview

  • The Finance team is headquartered in London and is responsible for the accounting, financial reporting, financial planning and analysis, investment accounting and valuations, purchasing and procurement, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions of the group.
  • BII has overseas office subsidiaries in Africa and Asia, with its largest, BII India Advisers Private Ltd (BIIIAPL), in India. Accounting for BIIIAPL is performed in India by the local team, with tax and company secretarial services provided by in-country third-party service providers. Accounting for all other overseas office subsidiaries is managed and performed at BII plc in London assisted by local outsourced service providers. This team is headed by the Technical and Subsidiaries Accounts Manager in the UK who this role will report to.

 

About the role

  • Delivery of the day-to-day bookkeeping, including payroll, and accounts payable and receivable function for BIIIAPL.
  • Deliver on the month-end reporting tasks and reconciliations within the reporting timelines.
  • Prepare the annual statutory financial statements and quarterly unaudited management accounts for BIIIAPL.
  • Liaise with the external auditor during the statutory audit to manage the audited financial statement process, ensuring all audit requests are actioned.
  • Maintain risk control matrices (RCM) and procedure notes for internal controls on financial reporting (IFCR).
  • Monitor compliance against RCMs for IFCR. Collaborate with BII’s Internal Audit function and the external auditor for the annual review of IFCR compliance.
  • Ensure all tax filings are completed and submitted on time.
  • Ensure Company Secretarial duties are fulfilled (by the third-party provider) and compliant ensuring all FEMA filings are submitted on time with RBI and other authorities and confirm the same to BII’s Company Secretary team.
  • Organisation of the quarterly Board meeting cycle for BIIIAPL and presentation of financial results at the meetings as required.
  • Establish good working relationships with third-party service providers ensuring all deliverables are met to the required standard.
  • Mentor and assist with professional development of the Accountant in the BIIIAPL team
  • Ensure good financial controls are followed.
  • Maintain the standard operating procedures and ensure they are complied with.
  • Work with the London Treasury team to ensure the entity has sufficient funding for operations and any surplus cash is placed on deposit.
  • Collaborate with Group reporting team, Overseas Team, Treasury, Procurement, Finance Systems, Tax, Co-sec, Facilities, HR, FP&A and the rest of the business to meet objectives.
  • Drive for automated solutions in reporting, process improvement and finding efficiencies, accuracy and insights into better ways of working.
  • Evaluation of appropriate institutions to donate CSR budget and monitor post-funding.

 

About you 

Essential skills

  • Must be a Qualified Accountant with extensive financial accounting experience processing and preparing Indian GAAP accounts and have a working knowledge of IFRS (which the group reports under).
  • Must have extensive experience of Indian tax compliance.
  • Company Secretarial qualification not essential but knowledge required to manage an outsourced provider.
  • Strong technical accounting, financial analysis and advanced Excel skills.
  • The ability to take the initiative, to enjoy new challenges and see tasks through to completion no matter how challenging they may be.
  • Effective communicator and problem solver.
  • A flexible and accountable team player who takes ownership of tasks and can work independently with limited supervision, willing to cover for team members if necessary.
  • Experience of Infor SunSystems and Q&A is preferable, or similar ERP systems.
  • Candidates should be strongly motivated by BII’s development mission and ideally demonstrate some commitment to development or social goals through previous executive or non-executive activity.
