The Pitch

In conjunction with the Head of Special Situations, we are looking to hire a Manager or Director to articulate and implement appropriate post-investment portfolio management strategies for Special Situation investments.

Responsibilities

  • Articulate and implement appropriate post-investment portfolio management strategies for Special Situation investments, in line with our responsible exit and restructuring guidelines.
  • Active engagement with relevant BII portfolio companies’ senior management post-investment when deemed a “Special Situation” in order to drive and achieve improved performance of the investment from a commercial, developmental and ESG perspective.
  • Take a pro-active approach to re-building value and to resolving problems of under-performance and/or non-compliance at investment level across the BII portfolio with a particular focus on direct equity transactions.
  • Develop collaborative working relationships with the relevant BII sector teams and also with DI, ESG, BI, Legal and Finance.

About You

Background

  • An extensive investment background with suitable restructuring/structuring/special situations/distressed asset experience, ideally from a financial institutions/DFI/ organisation working in the same environment as BII.
  • The candidate must have demonstrable international working experience, i.e. experience in operating in an internationally ‘diverse’ commercial (banking) or consultancy environment.
  • Master’s degree or similar.

Skills, aptitude

The Candidate:

  • Experience and ability to independently (re)structure investments in various BII strategic sectors; with experience in restructuring and work-out situations.
  • Comfortable working across multi-product capital structures and highly sensitized to development impact.
  • Proven ability to analyze and evaluate new “Special Situation” investments as they arise across different products and sectors including comprehensive legal, financial, and commercial due diligence.
  • Ideally has direct equity experience and having been a board member
  • Strong negotiation and transaction execution skills.
  • A team player showing strong interpersonal skills and with a commercial attitude and a service (client-oriented) entrepreneurial mentality.
  • An out of the box thinker, able to be flexible and creative but also to maintain a strong position in difficult work out environments.
  • Self-motivated, with a critical, yet “can do’, solution-oriented attitude.
  • The ability to speak another language used in BII markets would be advantageous but not a prerequisite (e.g. French etc...)
  • Candidates should be strongly motivated by BII’s development mission and ideally demonstrate some commitment to development or social goals through previous executive or non-executive activity
