Role Overview
The FSG Portfolio Management team, is part of the Financial Services Investment team and sits at the heart of FSG’s mission to improve the reach and depth of financial services and strengthen financial institutions across our markets. As the portfolio grows in scale and complexity, the team has also grown. The team is adynamic function that preserves capital, navigates diverse markets, and ensures both financial and developmental outcomes through strategic portfolio construction.
Our team is responsible for proactive monitoring, rigorous analysis, and early interventions that protect our capital. Joining FSG Portfolio Management means being part of a forward-thinking team that is shaping the future of a $2.5bn and growing Financial Services Portfolio.
The role will be a 9-month FTE maternity cover to provide an additional decision maker within the team. The individual will be responsible for the portfolio monitoring for 25 deals across FS Debt and TSCF.
Responsibilities
- Portfolio Monitoring
- Oversee portfolio monitoring and identify early risks.
- Supervise the monitoring of the FS Debt portfolio and make timely interventions.
- Ensure effective communication and reporting to the Head of Portfolio Management and other senior leaders.
- Translate deal-level insights into portfolio wide strategies and process improvements.
- Proactively manage relationships with existing counterparties, understand their needs and design tailored solutions to create meaningful impact in BII’s markets.
- Maintain relationships with relevant internal stakeholders such as OCIO, Risk, and Finance.
- Anticipate and manage portfolio level risks such as currency, country and sector risks.
- Oversee and make recommendations on narrower waiver and amendment requests, ensuring alignment with risk appetite and key frameworks.
- Conduct credit analysis on emerging market financial institutions, corporates, and sovereigns.
- Team Management
- Provide direct leadership and guidance to junior team members, supporting their development and helping them navigate complex decisions and covenant compliance.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and high performance within the team.
- Portfolio Optimisation
- Drive the FSG portfolio construction exercise, providing guidance on product and sector allocations to achieve organisational targets.
- Manage portfolio returns objectives by prioritising pipeline, through portfolio monitoring and mobilisation strategies.
Background, skills, aptitude
- Essential:
- Experience in portfolio management, asset allocation, or risk management within financial services or investment management.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to balance big-picture objectives and detailed execution.
- Proven track record of managing multiple internal and external stakeholders, including at senior levels.
- Familiarity with corporate credit risk analysis and the key differences between credit risk to a financial institution and to a corporate.
- Proven ability to work across teams and be collaborative in nature.
- High level of integrity, resilience, and adaptability in a fast-changing environment.
- Desirable:
- Project management skills and ability to organise workflows
- Existing network among portfolio managers working in DFIs, MDBs or institutions that invest in emerging markets.
