BII has seven levels: Business Support, Graduate Analyst, Associate, Executive, Manager, Director and Managing Director.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development impact assessment and monitoring for I&C investments across Africa.

  • Work closely with investment teams throughout the deal cycle — origination, due diligence, investment decisions, portfolio management and exits.

  • Develop impact dashboards, impact scores and monitoring plans aligned with BII’s impact framework.

  • Analyse impact performance, identify risks, and recommend course corrections.

  • Engage with investees to strengthen impact delivery and support impact‑enhancing initiatives.

  • Represent BII in regional impact‑related discussions and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Contribute to the evolution of BII’s impact tools, frameworks and sector strategies.

The Candidate (What we are looking for)

  • Strong grounding in development impact assessment within an investment, development finance or private‑sector development context.

  • Experience working in infrastructure and/or climate sectors in Africa or other developing markets.

  • Ability to analyse how investments drive development outcomes and to make sound impact‑related judgments.

  • Strong analytical skills, including comfort with both quantitative and qualitative evidence.

  • Ability to work closely with investment teams and communicate impact considerations clearly.

  • A postgraduate degree in economics, development economics or a related analytical field.

What will help you succeed

  • Understanding of commercial investment strategies and how they intersect with development impact.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to represent BII externally.

  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams and operate in a fast‑moving environment.

  • The role will require regular travel, mostly within Africa and South Asia to work with investee companies.

  • Candidates should be strongly motivated by BII’s development mission and ideally demonstrate some commitment to development or social goals through previous executive or non-executive activity.
