Team and role overview

Infrastructure and Climate (I&C) Asia Direct Investments team is part of the Infrastructure & Climate Group within BII. The team will be responsible for execution of transactions under BII’s distinct investment strategy of British Climate Partner (BCP) with a capital allocation of USD 1.5bn for the next five strategy period (2026 – 2031). BCP will focus on mobilising private capital into commercially viable climate investments that accelerate the net zero transition in fast- growing and high-emitting middle-income countries, initially in Asia.

Under the BCP strategy, the team will focus on making platform equity and mezzanine debt investments in climate sub sectors such as renewable energy generation, power transmission & distribution and EV ecosystem, across India and South-East Asia. For each transaction, the teams will focus on mobilizing commercial capital in parallel or sub-sequent to the transaction.

There are 5 job levels – Associate, Executive, Manager, Director & Team Head. However, the team is very flat and people at all levels are involved in the real detail, and in representational work, both to Investment Committee and externally. Individual deal or portfolio management team currently consist of one Associate / Executive, one Manager / Sr. Executive and one Director (Deal lead) guided by the Team Head (Managing Director and Head of I&C Asia).

 

Purpose

The Manager will be responsible for the entire deal life cycle from origination to execution and portfolio monitoring of transactions. This will include initial assessment of new opportunities, financial modelling, valuation analysis, due diligence, documentation and portfolio management activities, as required, as well as assisting and liaising with other relevant transaction support teams (Legal, Environmental and Social, Business Integrity and Development Impact).

Scope of the role

· Support the Directors and Team Head in origination of new transactions as well as mobilisation of private capital under BCP strategy.

· Lead deal execution including management of due diligence workstreams, handling of key relationships with potential investee companies, guiding junior resources in preparation of IC papers.

· Build working relationships with colleagues and leaders across the firm, portfolio management teams and investment partners, and third-party advisors.

· Lead detailed due diligence processes (including scoping and hiring third-party advisors).

· Oversee development of complex financial models to assist in investment evaluation, structuring and financing.

· Lead in structuring and negotiation of terms with investees appropriate to commercially acceptable standards, ensuring legal documentation that is best of class.

· Lead the negotiation and execution of agreements and other transaction-related documents.

· Develop the investment thesis and detailed investment committee recommendations and take a major role in both presenting and answering challenging questions.

· Oversee and manage multiple external parties (counterparties, lawyers, accountants, tax and commercial advisors etc.) and begin to build new relationships with advisors / partners to help with deal sourcing.

· Lead monitoring of existing portfolio companies. 

· Oversee and mentor junior members of the team, be able to troubleshoot issues / questions and to offer guidance and support.

 

The candidate

Background, skills, aptitude

· Successful candidates must have experience within investment banking, consulting, or private equity; Experience in the infrastructure or real assets space is essential.

· Experience in execution of multiple transactions in the infrastructure sector. · Relationship management experience including managing relationships with portfolio companies and other external stakeholders.

· Strong financial modelling, excel, analytical and research skills and experience in valuation.

· Ability to work on multiple projects across products and sectors while working to deadlines and managing time effectively.

· Ability to mentor and guide junior team members.

· As a member of a small team, a flexible and “hands on” approach is a prerequisite.

· Candidates should be strongly motivated by BII’s development mission and ideally demonstrate some commitment to development or social goals through previous executive or non-executive activity.
