Team and role overview 

 

The Special Situations Team forms part of the CIO office. The Executive will work within the Special Situations Team to ensure that Special Situations (distressed) investments across all BII’s products (Debt, Equity, Funds & Capital Partnerships) and sectors are proactively and appropriately managed in accordance with BII’s policies, objectives, and values.  

 

The Role 

This is a permanent role working in conjunction with the Special Situations team to articulate and implement appropriate post-investment portfolio management strategies for Special Situation investments. This is an opportunity for an ambitious individual to gain a wider understanding of and contribute to BII’s distressed investments. It represents an important opportunity for career development, given the exposure it will provide and skills that can be learned. It will be an opportunity to deepen relationships and collaboration across teams and enhance international integration. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Work with Investment Directors to articulate and implement appropriate post-investment portfolio management strategies for Special Situation investments. 
  • Active engagement with relevant BII portfolio companies’ senior management post-investment when deemed a “Special Situation” in order to drive and achieve improved performance of the investment from a commercial, developmental and ESG perspective. 
  • Support approach to re-building value and to resolving problems of under-performance and/or non-compliance at investment level across the BII portfolio with a particular focus on direct debt and equity transactions. 
  • Develop collaborative working relationships with the relevant BII sector teams and also with DI, ESG, BI, Legal and Finance. 

 

The candidate 

Background, skills, aptitude 

  • Must have at least 12 months’ service at BII at the point of applying 
  • Be either at Associate 6.3, Executive 5.1 or 5.2 
  • Have an investment background in any sector  
  • Strong analytical skills, proficiency in financial analysis and use of Excel 
  • A team player showing strong interpersonal skills and with a commercial attitude and a service (client-oriented) entrepreneurial mentality 
  • An out of the box thinker, able to be flexible and creative but also to maintain a strong position in difficult work out environments 
  • Self-motivated, with a critical, yet “can do’, solution-oriented attitude
