The opportunity 

We are excited to announce our first 3 month assignment to Nepal!  

This will be a unique opportunity to work alongside our Country Representative and gain first hand exposure to origination, market development and stakeholder engagement in a frontier market context. The assignee will also have the opportunity to experience the culture, lifestyle and business environment in Nepal. 
 

Similar to the the Ambassador Programme, the assignee will continue in their current role while gaining additional exposure by dedicating approximately 20–30% of their capacity to supporting the Country Representative in a coverage capacity. To be successful for this assignment, it is important that the focus areas outlined below already form part of the assignee’s remit.  

Focus areas: 

  • Support the Country Representative with deal origination based on BII’s strategy in Nepal 
  • Support with market mapping for the wider organisation 
  • Participate as a deal team to support end to end execution 
  • Provide local insights for due diligence to other BII offices 
  • Coverage responsibilities including updates on trends, sector developments etc. 
  • Supporting liaison between Nepal and other offices 
  • External stakeholder support 
  • Coordinate in-country activities and create visit opportunities to showcase BII’s investment and impact. 
  • Support BII’s internal comms – e.g. blog posts etc. 

Eligibility Requirements 

Applicants must be able to perform their current role from Nepal, with line manager support for allocating 20–30% of their capacity to supporting the Country Representative.  

 

International Assignment - Eligibility  

The key eligibility requirements are as follows:   

  • Contract: permanent  
  • Tenure: requirement of a minimum of 12 months tenure by date of the application closing window. 
  • Performance: Applicants rated at a minimum of ‘Meeting Expectations’ or above as evidenced by the most recent PEDP. There must not be any active disciplinaries on file.   
  • Readiness to Work: Applicants should consider their readiness to adapt to a new work environment and culture. This includes understanding the cultural, legal, medical, and logistical aspects of working in a different country.   
  • Health and Safety: Before applying for an assignment, it is important to ensure that employees are fit to work in the new location.  
  • Travel Security: Before starting the assignment, the assignee would need to attend a pre-departure meeting and the required travel security training course. 
  • Role: the assignee must be able to carry out their role from Nepal from a logistical perspective. 
  • Restricted activities: To remain compliant with local requirements, the assignee must not undertake any investment decision‑making activities or sign any agreements on behalf of any foreign entity while based in Nepal. 
  • Right to Work: Nepali or Indian national only.  

Unfortunately, this opportunity isn’t available to Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card holders owing to the restrictions of the 1950 Indo-Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship. 
 
Applicants from outside of India must be mindful of their current immigration status in order not to jeopardise their right to work in their contractual location. 

Candidate background: 

Band 

  • Associate level 3 upwards 

Competency and Skills 

  • Ideal candidate should have some investment experience. 
  • Strong analytical, financial modelling, and problem-solving skills  
  • Strong people skills, with the ability to network and develop productive relationships locally  
  • Ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple projects effectively  
  • Outstanding business communication skills, including written, verbal and presentation. Comfort communicating with all levels of management internally and externally 
  • Experience working collaboratively as part of a team, facilitating information-sharing and organisational learning, with the capability and perseverance to work in a small team  
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision and limited on the ground support   

 

Application Process:  

Applicants must submit an application, as well as an email of support from their line manager ahead of a selection process.

  • Application: Outline why you believe you should be selected for this position (max 300 words)
  • Provide a short description of your experience at BII and prior to BII (max 300 words)
  • Line Manager Support: An email of support from your current line manager, touching on 20-30% of capacity focussed on supporting the Country Representative. 

Selection Process 

  • There will be an interview process for the shortlisted applicants. 

Relocation Support 

BII will provide:  

  • Flights for the assignee in line with the Travel and Travel Security policy 
  • Short-term accommodation booked via the Travel team  

Relocation costs and day-to-day business expenses will be covered by the assignee’s ‘home’ entity to be compliant with Corporate Tax requirements. 

Global Mobility and Safety

The security and wellbeing of our colleagues is our priority. Please be aware that all assignment types under the Global Mobility Programme are subject to rigorous security assessments.

In light of the evolving situation in the Middle East, assignment dates may be adjusted at short notice should the security or operational environment change.

Every host location is reviewed by our security team prior to departure. Where necessary, bespoke contingency plans and enhanced safety protocols will be implemented to ensure our staff are fully supported throughout their assignment period.

Dependents 

Please note that support for dependents is not extended for this assignment and would need to be self-funded. Any visiting dependents would not be covered by our Travel & Personal Accident insurance policy.  

Engagement during the Assignment 

The channels of communication will be:  

  • Local point of contact: Rabi Rayamajhi, Country Representative, Nepal 
  • Keeping in touch: The Global Mobility Partner will be available throughout the assignment period for check-in calls when required.  
  • Home line manager: The assignee will continue reporting into their line manager. Time zones must be taken into consideration to ensure that the assignment is a success.
