Campaigns and Incumbency Officer

The Conservative Councillors’ Association (CCA) is recruiting for a Campaigns and Incumbency Officer. Reporting to the Head of the Conservative Councillors’ Association, the post holder will also work closely with the CCA Board, supporting the implementation of its strategic direction and ensuring the effective delivery of agreed objectives.

This role will play an important part in getting candidates elected and keeping incumbent councillors re-elected through support to CCA members and associate members. As part of this, the post holder will also work closely with the Board, supporting the implementation of its strategic direction and ensuring the effective delivery of agreed objectives.

The successful candidate will lead on the creation and implementation of an elections and incumbency package that will provide members with the support they need to succeed as a candidate and succeed in the dual roles of Conservative councillor and campaigner. 

Our ideal candidate will be able to manage competing priorities and work well under pressure within a fast-paced political environment. The successful candidate will be a first-class organiser with the ability to deal sensitively and confidently with both members of the Party and the public. They will have an outstanding political instinct and judgement, making them able to confidently offer advice to council groups and candidates across the country.

To succeed in this role, they will also need to be self-motivated, conscientious, and an all-round hands-on team player. The successful candidate must have a strong work ethic, purposeful sense of initiative, and great attention to detail.

There may be some limited weekend and evening activities due to the nature of the responsibilities of this role.

Detailed responsibility:

  • Working with the Head of the CCA to create an elections and incumbency plan
  • Leading on the implementation of the plan with the CCA
  • Secretariat to the Elections and Campaigns Board Sub Committee
  • Maintaining the by elections report and other internal data reporting
  • Delivery of CCA campaign grant programmes as necessary
  • Support the growth of associate membership numbers
  • Proactive outreach and support to council groups – sharing best practice
  • Working with the Toolkit team to create engaging campaign materials and resources to be used by members
  • Collaborating with other teams within CCHQ to complement the CCA’s membership offering to members
  • Acting as the CCA’s point-of-contact for council groups on matters related to campaigning
  • Overseeing CCA support for by-elections including mutual aid
  • Monitoring upcoming by-elections, including horizon scanning
  • Working with other members of the CCA Team to create a training plan that is agile and centred on member needs.

Skills required:

  • Must be a competent user of Microsoft Office and AI tools
  • Understanding of electoral regulations and law
  • Experience of supporting election campaigns
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • Demonstrate good attention to detail
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated
  • A commitment to the values and electoral success of the Conservative Party

Experience preferred but not essential:

  • Strong understanding of local government
  • Writing content for publications, website and across mediums
  • Graphic and literature design
