Community Engagement Officer

We’re at our best, as a party and a government, when we’re fully engaged with communities across the country.

So we need to meet communities where they are and involve them in what we do. We need to hear their concerns and provide the solutions. And we need to find the people who will make all of it happen.

That’s why we’re on a mission to hire Community Engagement Officers.

These officers will be our link to communities up and down the country. They’ll be the ones listening to local concerns, finding talented local candidates, liaising with MPs and ministers, and using local knowledge to support operations — like finding venues for speeches and visits.

You might not have direct experience of a role like this. That’s okay. We’re looking for candidates who are passionate about making a difference, confident with new people and ready to roll up their sleeves.

If that sounds exciting, then we want to hear from you. We’ve got opportunities in the following areas:

  • North West
  • North East, Yorkshire, Nottingham and Derbyshire
  • Wales
  • West Midlands and Gloucestershire
  • East Midlands and Anglia
  • South
  • London and the South East

What will your responsibilities be?

Every day will be different — that’s what makes the job exciting. But you can expect to:

  • Become embedded in your area and build relationships with local people – acting as a liaison for interest groups
  • Share local concerns with us and help us act on the issues that matter to residents
  • Find outstanding local candidates from a range of backgrounds to help represent the Conservative Party across every type of election, including mayoral, PCC and parliamentary elections
  • Provide advice, training and mentoring for residents who want to represent their communities, for example by helping them through the selection process
  • Support the work of our Tour and Operations team to find outstanding community groups for the party to engage with, as well as finding suitable venues for visits, roundtables, and speeches across your area
  • Keep up to date with local business news and jobs announcements, making recommendations for political ministerial visits
  • Work with MPs and ministers to improve our community relations

What skills do you need to be a Community Engagement Officer?

  • A driving license
  • Experience of managing community engagement projects or maintaining excellent customer relationships
  • The ability to work in a team and help colleagues from a range of departments achieve our shared goals
  • The ability to build relationships with a variety of people
  • The ability to set your own priorities and work independently at times
  • Proficiency with Microsoft systems

If you’re not sure whether you’ve got all the skills we're looking for, don’t rule yourself out. Send in your application, tell us why you’d be a great fit, and let us decide!
