Director of Digital

The Conservative Campaign Headquarters is seeking an inspiring and visionary Director of Digital to join its senior leadership team. In this pivotal role, you’ll shape and drive the Party’s digital direction overseeing strategy, innovation, and delivery across all online channels. You will lead the creation of impactful digital experiences, ensuring engaging communication with key audiences and the development of high‑quality digital products and services.
 

The role also oversees digital transformation initiatives and holds strategic responsibility for CRM platforms, ensuring data integrity, system optimisation, and alignment with wider Party goals. This role requires a proactive approach, strong leadership capability, and the ability to operate in a fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities.

Reporting Line

The role reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

Key Responsibilities

Digital Strategy and Leadership

  • Provide organisational leadership for the digital function, developing and delivering a comprehensive digital strategy.
  • Set strategic direction for digital engagement, user experience, and long‑term digital capability development.
  • Lead digital planning, prioritisation, and resource allocation across all activities and projects.

Digital Operations and Content

  • Oversee digital activity across all major channels, including web, social media, email, video, and digital advertising.
  • Ensure that all digital content is consistent, high‑quality, and aligned with organisational messaging and objectives.
  • Manage the delivery of rapid-response digital activity during key periods.

Team Leadership and Line Management

  • Provide effective line management to the Deputy Director of Digital and the wider digital team, ensuring high performance, clear objectives, and professional development.
  • Build a collaborative, innovative, and high‑performing digital department with strong cross‑team communication.
  • Lead resource planning and recruitment for digital roles.

CRM and Data Leadership

  • Oversee the strategy, governance, and optimisation of the organisation’s CRM systems.
  • Ensure accurate data management, system compliance, and strong integration with organisational activity.
  • Lead digital transformation initiatives, ensuring systems and processes support organisational growth and operational efficiency.

Digital Transformation

  • Lead internal digital transformation projects, ensuring modern, scalable, and user-centred digital solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for digital innovation and operational improvement across the organisation.
  • Manage relationships with external technology suppliers, platforms, and agencies.

Performance, Measurement & Compliance

  • Use analytics and insight to improve digital performance and inform strategic decision‑making.
  • Ensure all digital activity complies with relevant data protection, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Produce regular reporting on digital performance, risks, and opportunities.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Extensive experience leading digital strategy and operations in a complex organisation.
  • Strong expertise in digital content, web management, social media, and digital advertising.
  • Demonstrated understanding of CRM systems, data governance, and digital transformation delivery.
  • Leadership experience managing diverse digital teams in high‑pressure or fast‑moving environments.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high‑quality work at pace.
  • Strong judgement, strategic thinking, and decision‑making skills.
  • Excellent organisational and communication abilities.

Desirable

  • Experience leading large‑scale CRM improvement or digital transformation programmes.
  • Understanding of emerging digital trends and opportunities for innovation.
  • Experience working in an environment with rapid‑response demands.
