Team and role overview

CDC’s Infrastructure Equity Team is part of the Infrastructure & Climate Group which also consist of Project Finance and Energy Access & Efficiency teams. The Group focuses on making equity and equity like investments in sub sectors in infrastructure such as energy, transport, ports, mid-stream gas and water across Africa and South Asia.

There are 5 job levels – Associate, Executive, Manager, Director & Team Head. However, the team is very flat and people at all levels are involved in the real detail, and in representational work, both to Investment Committee and externally.  



The Executive will be responsible for the entire deal life cycle from origination to execution and portfolio monitoring of transactions. This will include initial assessment of new opportunities, financial modelling, valuation analysis, due diligence, and portfolio management activities, as required, as well as assisting and liaising with other relevant transaction support teams (Legal, Environmental and Social, Business Integrity and Development Impact).



Evaluation of new investment proposals:

  • Assessing investment proposals for deals that fit within CDC’s developmental and investment mandate.
  • Analysing financial information relating to specific companies.
  • Building or analysing financial models and conducting sensitivity analysis.
  • Assisting with reports to be presented to investment committee for approval and participating in the meetings.
  • Conducting detailed valuations on companies using various methods.
  • Assisting with the due diligence on a specific company, sector, and country.

Due Diligence:

  • Supporting senior members of the team working on new equity investment proposals.
  • Completing due diligence tasks such as company, industry, sector, and economic analysis.
  • Analysing financial models, including detailed analysis of input assumptions, outputs and conducting sensitivity analysis.
  • Responsible for analysis, including sector / market analysis; company / borrower analysis (including financial analysis and financial modelling);
  • Perform all aspects of credit assessment and due diligence as part of a deal team, identify transactions risks and how these can be mitigated, and will take responsibility for deal completion related work, including conditions precedent.
  • Drafting term sheet and assisting in finalizing the valuation, structuring the transaction
  • Reviewing legal documentation together with the internal legal team;
  • Project management of key elements of the deal execution
  • Manage external due diligence work streams in consultation with the deal lead
  • Support the deal lead in achieving tasks required towards closure on deals

Portfolio Monitoring:

  • Preparing periodic reports and working with the deal teams to help in the monitoring of investees financial and strategic performance


  • Contributing to sector/country strategies; collecting market data and other research activities relevant to CDC ‘s equity investments.
  • Keeping up-to-date deal-flow, deal management and portfolio monitoring databases for all transactions
  • Supporting the identification of new investments by developing/maintaining a network of relevant contacts


The candidate

Background, skills, aptitude

  • Successful candidates will have experience within investment banking, consulting, or private equity in the infrastructure space.
  • Strong financial modelling, excel, analytical and research skills and experience in valuation.
  • Financial analysis skills and ability to analyse a company’s financial statements and make commercial assessments;
  • Exposure to emerging market finance, especially in Africa and Asia, is advantageous.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects across products and sectors while working to deadlines and managing time effectively;
  • Good business communication and presentation skills;
  • Evidence of relationship building and ability to develop a network of relevant external contacts, as well as internally across different teams;
  • As a member of a small team, a flexible and “hands on” approach is a prerequisite;
  • Candidates should be strongly motivated by CDC’s development mission and ideally demonstrate some commitment to development or social goals through previous executive or non-executive activity.
