The Role



  • To play a leading role in the development of CDC’s direct equity investments in the industrials sector in South Asia. CDC invests from its own balance sheet and, depending on the opportunity, has the flexibility to take equity stakes ranging from one to 100 per cent. The role is focused on equity transactions across South Asia and in sectors that would support significant employment creation such as healthcare, education, agribusiness, general manufacturing, telecom, logistics and real estate.
  • In addition to being involved in the management of existing investments, the incumbent is expected to actively seek out deals, and work out favorable exit options. The individual will have to demonstrate creativity in developing innovative structures to maximize return on capital deployed. This is a truly hands-on role and requires an understanding of the industrials sector in India, as well as South Asia markets. The Industrials sector remit includes investments in light and heavy manufacturing, logistics and real estate.



Investment Strategy & Execution

  • Take complete ownership of origination, evaluation, successful execution, performance monitoring and profitable exit of portfolio transactions in select segments / strategies

Deal Sourcing

  • Build personal networks and work closely with strategy teams to originate and evaluate investment opportunities
  • Contribute innovative ideas and /or structures that can produce value creating opportunities for the company. Evangelize such ideas and see them through to execution
  • Building relationships with intermediaries (e.g. bankers & CA firms) to originate external opportunities on a limited and focused basis

Championing a deal – end to end

  • Establish complete oversight over the evaluation and execution process including preliminary screening of opportunities
  • Detailed evaluation including rigorous valuation, assessment of potential risks and upsides;
  • 3rd party paid diligence including commercial, financial, legal and tax advisors
  • Deal structuring for maximizing long term value for the Fund while also ensuring the rights and downsides from the deal are adequately protected;
  • Negotiation with promoters
  • Deal documentation and execution
  • Champion select deals with the Fund’s Investment Committee as well in select cases syndicate the same with potential co-investors / other GPs in case of Club deals.


  • Monitor closely the progress of the companies in the portfolio to ensure optimal performance
  • Work closely with the portfolio companies to guide their business strategy and assist in key initiatives e.g. planning, recruitment, operations improvement, expansion etc.
  • Gauge the right time to bring in incremental investments into the company to ensure balance between over-dilution and cash constraint.


  • Work with research teams/economists/Bankers within and outside the group to monitor global/local trends that will affect timing and type of exit for each investment
  • Work closely with the company, to create sound exit opportunities (IPO/Trade sale/Up sell) when the stage of growth/time is right.


The Candidate 


  • At least eight years in Private Equity with focus on growth capital.
  • Should have seen end to end of a deal lifecycle i.e. investing, portfolio management and exits.
  • Must possess strong Industry / Sector Knowledge and should be able to build a story or thesis around a deal and assertively put forward his/her thoughts.
  • Impeccable Academic and professional credentials
  • Prior investing experience in the industrials sector, preferably in logistics, real estate and manufacturing (e.g. chemicals, pharmaceuticals, non-food FMCG products) in India / South Asia
  • Experience of dealing with principal shareholders and company owners
  • A Master’s degree in a relevant field (finance, economics, business administrationType text here

Technical Skills

  • Have strong structuring, valuation, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to analyze sectors and themes that are ripe for investment
  • Consultative approach to work with portfolio companies
  • Excellent financial and legal structuring skills.
  • Strong understanding of diligence processes, financial terms, legal terms.
