A brilliant opportunity to join Uber Boat by Thames Clippers (UBTC) at a time of significant growth.
UBTC was founded in 1999, initially operating a one boat service from South East to Central London. Today UBTC has a fleet of 21 vessels, serves 24 piers and carries over 4.6 million passengers, providing a unique transport offering to London’s commuters and visitors, connecting them to their homes, places of work and river-side attractions, in an environment that is unmatched by any other form of London transport. UBTC operates the only commuter service on the Thames and occupies a distinct market position for tourist and visitor experiences by linking the majority of riverside attractions. This unique offering extends to private charters and UBTC’s portfolio will deliver sustained expansion both to the East and West London, with a target to grow to 9m annual passengers by 2030. The business is now also moving into light freight logistics which plans to relieve London’s congested road network within the next 3 years.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To ensure each OCSA has the correct tools to be able to carry out their duties safely, effectively and in compliance with all relevant processes and food safety / alcohol licensing laws.
- To maintain an audit log of all equipment, absence and lateness, holiday, staff performance, uniform, and food/hygiene standards
- To assist the Catering Manager with all aspects of performance management
- To provide a ‘world class’ standard of customer service at all times.
- To assist the Master / Mate / DCSA in any emergency situations and take part in monthly drills to ensure preparedness for such events.
- Deputise in the absence of managers and fulfil OCSA shifts as and when required.
- To support a team of OCSA in serving food and beverages to customers following prescribed methods of portioning, presentation, and combinations in line with our brand standards and answer questions about products.
- To follow food hygiene / safety procedures in line with health and safety requirements.
- To ensure sales of alcohol are completed responsibly and in line with licencing requirements.
- To ensure all customers are greeted on board with a friendly welcome and their requirements for food and drink are explored.
- To ensure all sales are processed through the EPOS system, payment is taken/recorded in full and that all elements of the Payment Procedure are always adhered to.
- To maximise the profitability of sales by offering suitable ‘add-ons’ which could enhance the customer’s enjoyment of their purchase. For example, a pastry with a coffee.
- To minimise losses by taking all reasonable steps to ensure stock is not lost, stolen or damaged. Organise monthly stock count and conduct appropriate brand standard audits.
- Manage a team of up to 15 OCSA to deliver department targets.
- Oversee that the cleaning programme is followed and that all vessels are kept to a high standard of cleanliness at all times during service.
- To train new team members in all procedures and aspects of their role.
- Take appropriate action to remedy any feedback, complaints, suggestions, stock requirements, breakages, faults, or hazards identified during the course of work.
- To help with the recruitment and retention of Team Members, identifying and supporting those who are willing and able to evolve their careers with UBTC.
- To support the effective delivery of special events and functions.
- To take part in monthly drills to ensure emergency preparedness and maintain an accurate log of these sessions.

- Act as role model and champion of our company values, assisting the operation to integrate them into local processes and literature.
- Work closely and develop relationships with our local suppliers, relevant industry bodies, universities, colleges, and schools to support local employment options.
- Assist in developing and maintaining effective teamwork across our diverse business.
- Ensure that all relevant information is communicated speedily and accurately in a way that ensures that the information is received and easily understood.
- Ensure that all materials and resources are effectively and efficiently utilised to minimise waste and reduce costs.
- Attend events to showcase Uber Boats by Thames Clippers as an employer of choice and build and manage talent pipeline of potential candidates.
- Undertake any other relevant duties or reasonable requests as requested by a member of the senior management team.
- Optimize sales target through your team of engaged and motivated OCSA’s.
KEY SKILLS:
Essential
- Previous, relevant working experience within a Customer / Food Service or Retail environment
- Have a genuine desire and ability to work with the public in a front line, customer focused environment.
- A natural leader with experience to inspire operational teams to deliver results.
- Be committed and flexible in your approach to work and able to work under pressure, multi-task and prioritise work.
- Have a proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and to establish good professional relationships with colleagues.

- Food hygiene certificate – Level 2
