Acting as second in command of our boats, you will be responsible for assisting the Master with the safe operation and navigation of the boats.

Key duties will include:

  • Providing an additional lookout for the Master;
  • Operation of the CCTV on board and VHF radio systems;
  • Ensuring that the vessel is appropriately secured to allow for the safe embark and disembarkation of passengers;
  • Undertaking checks of the vessel's equipment and various safety responsibilities, in accordance with our Safety Management System; and
  • Responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Deck Customer Service Assistant working on board.

You will have a proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and to establish good professional relationships with colleagues; thrive in a very busy environment and maintain patience and empathy even when working under pressure; and have excellent communication skills with the ability to build good internal and external relationships.

Knowledge of the River Thames and an interest/background in a maritime environment would be advantageous, as would the following qualifications:

  • relevant STCW (or equivalent);
  • Sea Survival;
  • Fire Fighting;
  • First Aid; and
  • Short Range VHF.

Where: You’ll be based on our boats, which are moored at Trinity Buoy Wharf, Poplar, London E14 0JY, a short walk from Canning Town tube or a hop across the river in our staff boat, from North Greenwich tube.

This a full time position working 42 hours a week. We are shortly looking to move to a 3 on 3 off shift pattern.

We’re looking for experienced people who want to further develop their career in the maritime industry and progress within Uber Boat by Thames Clippers from Mate and onto the position of Master, navigating our boats on the Thames. You’ll need to be focused, motivated and want to succeed. We will give you all the training and support you need so you’re set up for success.

 

 

You will work on board our boats that travel up and down the Thames assisting the Master, acting as second in command, you will be responsible for assisting the Master with the safe operation and navigation, as well as onboard Customer Service Assistant (OCSA), ensuring our customer’s safety at all times and making sure they have a wonderful journey with us.

 

 

You will ensure the vessel’s upkeep and cleaning duties are carried out efficiently, effectively and enjoy working with the public, being outside on the river and being part of a fun and busy team then this could be the role for you!

 

 

You will be approachable, friendly and helpful, not only to the passengers on board but also to your colleagues. We expect you to deliver the same amazing experience to our customers and team at the end of your shift as you do at the start.

 

 

Key duties will include

  • In charge of overseeing the daily management of Deck & Cabin crews aboard, under the direction of the Master.
  • Operating Thames Clipper vessels in alignment with our service delivery requirements, with a primary emphasis on maintaining customer satisfaction & vessel housekeeping;
  • Ensure ticket inspections are conducted at boarding locations, prior to embarkation, placing a significant emphasis on revenue protection.
  • Interacting with Thames Clipper's passengers, delivering an exceptional customer service experience at all times.
  • Providing lookout duties alongside the Master;
  • Support the Master with CCTV & VHF radio system operations on board;
  • Manage the mooring of Thames Clipper vessels and the safe embarkation/disembarkation of passengers;
  • Undertaking checks of the vessel's equipment and various safety responsibilities in accordance with our Safety Management System;

You:

Will require the following qualifications & Experience:

  • Vessel Mooring/Deck Experience
  • Bridge watchkeeping/lookout duties.
  • STCW First Aid
  • STCW Sea Survival
  • STCW Fire Fighting
  • VHF or equivalent GMDSS Qualification.

 

 

Desirable:

  • Passenger vessel experience.
  • Experience working on the River Thames and/or inland waterways.
  • Knowledge of the International Safety Management Code (ISM) & International code for High Speed Craft (HSCC)
  • MCA or equivalent COC/OOW/BML or RYA Qualification.

 

Salary: £34,926 - £39,453 (Depending on experience)

 

Where: You’ll be based on our boats, which are moored at Trinity Buoy Wharf, Poplar, London E14 0JY, a short walk from Canning Town tube or a hop across the river in our staff boat, from North Greenwich tube.

 

 

When: Shift work based on a Monday-Sunday split shift rotation, between the hours of am 04:30 & 01:30am.
