Where and when do we need you? 

We have two Residential Children’s home in Brecon Beacons National Park. Over time our 2 homes will accommodate up to 5 children aged between 11 and 18 and the focus will be to provide an enriching and positive environment ensuring we prepare the children in our care to move onto safe and nurturing foster care placements which will be achieved through early intervention.  

As a Support Worker you will be involved exciting and rewarding things like: 

  • To make a contribution to the monitoring of good practice within the home and ensuring safe working practices within Child Protection procedures.
  • To complete Riise Keep Yourself Safe Course/ Riise 5-day foundation course and a yearly 2-day refresher. Embed skills learnt on Riise into working practice.
  • To effectively contribute, as part of the team, to the planning and decision-making process within the home. Share your thoughts in team meetings.
  • To undertake key worker tasks and responsibilities- complete key work sessions and arrange appointments.
  • Contributing to formal assessments of the needs of young people, in conjunction with colleagues and other professionals, to promote and safeguard the welfare of the young people in placement.
  • To manage behaviours of concern resulting from previous trauma and recognise the need to intervene using positive handling strategies, in order to ensure the safety of young people and colleagues.
  • To support young people with their engagement and participation in activities with Fair Ways Outdoor Adventure.
  • To understand and work within the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Act 2016 (RISCA) and adhere to Fair Ways Policies and Procedures.
  • To ensure you complete daily tasks consistent with the smooth running of the home, such as contact sheet, personal plan, key work sessions, incident forms, risk assessments and ISP.
  • To engage productively in individual supervision and attend group supervision sessions with management team and The Hub.
  • To observe, assess and monitor young people’s health development and emotional well-being, by promoting high standards of physical care, hygiene and safety for all young people in the home.
  • Involve young people in decisions about their personal plan, in order to maximise their choices, giving due consideration to their wishes and feelings.
  • Sharing of information, via handovers, meetings, liaising with families and placing authorities and any other agencies involved in the care of young people.
  • To demonstrate a commitment to Fair Ways’ culture by playing your A.R.T. This involves being Professional (doing what you say you’ll do); Accepting (inclusive, open minded and respectful), Reflective (focus on learning, not blaming) and being Transparent (open, honest, having integrity).
  • Any other duties as may be required by your Line Manager/Director.

 

You will be working on a rota basis; Day 1: 9.00 to 23.00 with a sleep in, Day 2: 7.30 to 23.00 with a sleep in, Day 3: 7.30 to 10.00, Day 4 to 6 off. 

 All candidates must have a full driving license and have access to the use of a car. Successful candidates will be required to provide an enhanced Disclosure (DBS). This disclosure cost will be met by Fair Ways.

Whilst we value the knowledge and understanding that experience and qualifications can bring we also know that some of our best people have come to us from unrelated backgrounds.   • Previous experience of working with young people and/or adults with health/social care/educational needs  
  • A Level 3 qualification in childcare/social care
