Who are Fair Ways and what do we stand for?

Fair Ways is a leading children’s services charity based in the Solent, delivering Fostering, Education, Residential and Family services. Each year, we care for and support over 400 children, families, young people and vulnerable adults. At Fair Ways, we believe in making a difference through passionate care, support and education. We are one team. We care about each other, we are committed to the people we support, and we are proud of the difference our staff make every day. We will not apologise for calling our staff great, the best, or world-class. Our people are at the heart of our organisation, and we celebrate them by shouting it from the rooftops.

Where and when do we need you?

Fair Ways has an exciting opportunity to join our amazing charity as part of our IT Team. We are looking for an organised, confident, and values-driven individual with strong problem-solving skills, excellent attention to detail, and a passion for providing secure, effective IT support.

This role will help keep Fair Ways’ IT systems secure, reliable, and operational, enabling colleagues across the organisation to focus on their work supporting those we care for. You will provide responsive technical support, help protect our networks, systems, and data from cyber threats, and support our continued compliance with recognised security standards.

Working within our fantastic IT team, your role will involve:

  • Providing effective IT support - Resolving IT issues creatively and efficiently, whether on-site, remotely, or through our support desk. You will diagnose and resolve software, hardware, network, and system issues, removing IT roadblocks and helping colleagues work without unnecessary disruption.
  • Keeping Fair Ways secure and operational - Monitoring systems and networks for potential risks, acting decisively to prevent disruption, and supporting the continued security and reliability of our IT environment. You will help maintain and enhance our IT security defences, including vulnerability scanning, patch management, phishing simulations and remediation activity in partnership with trusted third-party providers.
  • Supporting cyber security, compliance, and best practice - Helping Fair Ways maintain Cyber Essentials certification and supporting our journey towards Cyber Essentials Plus. You will contribute to keeping systems secure, policies up to date, controls in place, and documentation clear and effective as the organisation continues to grow and develop.
  • Championing cyber awareness and safe technology use - Promoting cyber awareness and best practice across the organisation, helping to foster a culture where security is understood and valued. You will also support the safe and secure use of emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, ensuring sensitive data is protected and relevant data protection requirements are met.
  • Working collaboratively and professionally - Building positive relationships with colleagues, internal teams and external stakeholders. You will communicate clearly, act in a timely and transparent way, and ensure your work reflects the values, aims and purpose of Fair Ways.
  • Managing a varied workload - Using excellent attention to detail, time management and forward thinking to manage competing priorities. You will work calmly and supportively, ensuring tasks are completed within agreed deadlines and challenges are dealt with constructively.
  • Contributing to improvement and development - Working as part of the wider IT team, supporting key workstreams and assisting the IT Lead with projects, budgeting, cost management and continuous improvement. You will stay informed about emerging threats, trends, and technologies, and take responsibility for your own professional development through supervision, training and learning opportunities.
  • Working as a trauma-informed professional - Playing your part in growing a compassionate, resilient, and trauma-informed community that embraces learning, so that we improve the lives and outcomes of every individual we support.

You and your specialisms

Our internal community is central to achieving our mission of making a difference through passionate care, support, and education. You will be efficient, proactive, and knowledgeable, providing a professional service to internal customers and external stakeholders.

To support this, you will bring:

  • Experience or knowledge of children’s services, care, education, or charity settings, which would be advantageous.
  • Proficiency with remote support tools, such as TeamViewer, AnyDesk or RDP.
  • A strong understanding of networking, operating systems, including Windows and Linux, and cloud security.
