Where and when do we need you?

We are looking for a Deputy Manager to cover a 12 month maternity cover at our wonderful residential childrens home. Garden House is a residential children’s home that can accommodate up to 6 children aged between 6 and 14. The home provides a structured, homely, and nurturing environment for children who benefit from clear boundaries and structure, and we believe this is the starting point to enable the children to achieve their potential, supporting our overall aim of a transition into long term foster care. The successful candidate will support the home manager in ensuring a high-quality service is delivered and deputise for the Home Manager in their absence. This will include monitoring and ensuring that daily tasks are completed to a high standard and will involve effectively performance managing staff when appropriate to do so.

Within this role you will be involved in exciting and rewarding things like:

Basic Job Responsibilities:

  • Managerial and Regulatory Responsibility - To ensure that self and others work within the required Ofsted frameworks and adhere to Fair Ways Policies and Procedures. To take an active lead as part of the Management team of the home, including deputising for the Registered Manager in any periods of absence.
  • Supporting and developing your team - To work as part of the Management team to support handovers, rota management and to have oversight of the home ensuring that all required daily tasks are completed. You will provide high quality supervision to your direct reports and conduct appraisals in line with the Company appraisals process.
  • Building safe and respectful relationships - To proactively maintain safe and respectful relationships with children through effective support, guidance and care ensuring the maintenance of safe professional boundaries in line with best practice.
  • Working as a trauma informed individual - Using our industry recognised RiiSE training to deliver trauma informed responses through the individualised use of therapeutic and, where appropriate, physical intervention to ensure our children are supported appropriately during times of crisis.
  • Supporting positive lifestyle choices - To demonstrate the therapeutic importance of maintaining a clean, tidy and homely environment through effective role modeling and education, promoting high standards of physical care, hygiene and safety and demonstrating positive and healthy choices to support children to develop and thrive.
  • Keeping vulnerable children and young people safe: Managing any child protection issues that may occur through effective reporting in line with the policies and procedures of the residential home in partnership with the registered manager and any relevant external agency to keep children safe from harm for the duration of their placement with Fair Ways.

This role is offered as a 1 year maternity contract working 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday with on-call responsibilities.

All candidates must have a full driving license and have access to the use of a car. Successful candidates will be required to provide an enhanced Disclosure (DBS). This disclosure cost will be met by Fair Ways.

You and your specialisms

Essentials:

  • Will need to have a minimum of Level 3 in residential childcare and either hold or be willing to undertake a Level 5 Diploma In Leadership For Health & Social Care or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable experience in working with children and/or young people will be required with additional line management experience beneficial.
  • A good knowledge of child protection and safeguarding would be expected.

Desirable:

  • Experience of providing trauma informed responses in order to support children and young people appropriately during times of crisis.
