Where and when do we need you?

Fair Ways have an exciting opportunity to join our amazing charity within our IT Team as 1st line IT Support. We are looking for an organised and confident individual with strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail to provide effective technical support and maintenance of IT systems.  Protecting the organisation’s networks, systems, and data from cyber threats by implementing security measures, monitoring for vulnerabilities, and responding to incidents. This role involves troubleshooting, implementing solutions, and ensuring the organisation is compliant with security standards.

Working within our fantastic IT team, your role will involve:

  • Working Creatively – Resolving IT issues creatively whether on-site, via remote access, or through our support desk, removing IT roadblocks.
  • Keep Fair Ways IT Systems secure and operational. Undertake swift, effective diagnosis and resolution of any software and network issues ensuring seamless business continuity. To ensure Fair Ways IT function is able to stay ahead of threats through the monitoring of networks and systems for potential risks, reporting accordingly and acting decisively to prevent disruptions.
  • Maintaining, developing and enhancing our IT security defences - leading vulnerability scanning, patch management, and phishing simulations in partnership with trusted third-party providers. To identify, escalate, and remediate security vulnerabilities across systems and applications, proactively protecting the organisation from cyber threats and reducing the risk of security incidents.
  • Cyber Essentials - To maintain Cyber Essentials certification making sure the organisation continues to meet the Cyber Essentials requirements by keeping systems secure, policies up to date, and controls in place and spearhead our journey to Cyber Essentials Plus strengthening technical controls, documentation, and processes ensuring progress in line with organisational growth and strategic development.
  • Champion cyber awareness and best practices - fostering a culture of security across the organisation. You will build relationships and communicate professionally with colleagues, internal teams and any required external stakeholders. Your actions will be timely, transparent and values based ensuring the charities objectives and goals are represented clearly and in line with its values.
  • Managing Change - To manage a changeable and varied workload effectively through excellent attention to detail, time management and forward thinking ensuring that all tasks are fulfilled by required deadlines and that any challenges are dealt with in a calm and supportive manor.
  • Collaboration and Communication - To work as part of the wider IT team support IT colleagues on key workstreams and assist the IT Lead with budgeting, cost management, and strategic projects. You will use your excellent teamwork and communication skills delivering diligent, conscientious IT security contributing to continuous improvement.
  • Staying a step ahead - To stay informed on emerging threats, trends, and technologies. You will manage your personal and continuous professional development through self-assessment, supervision, training, and the acquisition of different learning opportunities to ensure that you remain skilled and competent in your role and updated with current legislation.
  • Working as a trauma informed professional -To play your part in growing a compassionate, resilient and trauma informed community that embraces learning, so that we improve the lives and outcomes of every individual.

You and your specialisms

You will be extremely efficient, proactive and knowledgeable providing a professional service to internal customers and external stakeholders. To support this, you will have the following:

  • Established experience across a range of organisations.
  • Proficiency with remote support tools (e.g., TeamViewer, AnyDesk, RDP).
  • Strong understanding of networking, operating systems (Windows/Linux), and cloud security.
  • Familiarity with security tools.
  • Track record of managing multiple tasks remotely.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

The role will be based from home with a minimum of 1 day per week at our Central Support Office in Cosham, Portsmouth.  All candidates must have a full driving license and have access to the use of a car. Successful candidates will be required to provide an enhanced Disclosure (DBS). This disclosure cost will be met by Fair Ways. Fair Ways are unable to provide VISA sponsorship for this role and all applicants will need to be able to provide evidence of right to work in the UK.
