Who are Fair Ways and what do we stand for?
Fair Ways is a leading children’s services charity, delivering Fostering, Education, Residential and Family services and cares for over 400 children, families, young people and vulnerable adults each year. Fair Ways is a great place to work. We are a team. We care about each other and are all committed to making a change to the lives of the young people and service users in our care. We will not apologise for calling our staff great, the best, or world-class. Our staff are at the core of our organisation and we celebrate them by shouting it from the rooftops!
Where and when do we need you?
Fair Ways is committed to fostering a trauma informed therapeutic culture that makes a positive difference. To support that commitment, we are looking for a confident, professional and pro-active Allied Health Professional to join our Therapeutic Hub. The primary purpose of this role is to support Fair Ways in its ambition to be trauma informed and to help embed a united, evidence-based, systemic approach that works to enhance the quality and impact of the care and support we provide.
Working as an Allied Health Professional with Fair Ways you will deliver the highest standards of therapeutic care and support to our children and young people through:
- The assessment and management of young people’s physical and mental health - working to understand and manage complex risk with individuals and across services and networks. Supporting children, young people and families in gaining safety first and supporting teams to maintain placements. You will encourage and participate in formulating the individual’s strengths and difficulties and in promoting a culture of systemic thinking about risk, including positive risk taking as well as risk management.
- Supporting and developing internal teams - You will support Fair Ways services in a ‘Team-around-the-Relationship’ approach to service-delivery, understanding the importance of meeting young people and Fair Ways teams where they are at and using relationship as the base. This allows Fair Ways colleagues, children, young people and families to feel safe, develop relationships, learn to be co-regulated and develop understanding around emotions.
- Trauma Informed Workforce Development – You will provide leadership to the wider Fair Ways team, contributing to service development commensurate with the organisations goals but with particular focus on supporting the understanding of complex trauma alongside other presentations of mental ill health or neurodiversity, and in assessing and managing risk. You will do this through supporting the personal and continuous professional development of Fair Ways staff, through 1-1 supervision, formal training and through “trickle-training" in trauma informed approaches as well as through direct therapeutic work.
- Utilising your research and critical appraisal skills - Using evidence to support clinical decision-making and oversight, both within own practice and when supporting teams. You will also contribute to an ongoing program of audit to evaluate practice within the Hub Team, and within wider Fair Ways services, ensuring that the data is used to develop and improve outcomes for our young people.
- Quality and Governance - You will do this through understanding and supporting the use of routine outcome measures, as well as helping to analyse the data and support the quality safety governance team in improving services through reviewing and developing new practice policies and procedures when required. You will show commitment to your own personal and continuous professional development through self-assessment, supervision, training, and the acquisition of different learning opportunities.
- Multidisciplinary and inter-agency working – You will liaise with relevant professionals, providers, commissioners establishing positive working relationships with local networks (particularly CAMHs, AMH, Local GP surgeries) around the young people we support across the Charity. These working relationships help us to manage crisis and improve outcomes over the long term. You will do this by writing and distributing theraputic needs assessments with clear formulations alongside multi-agency risk management plans across services within Fair Ways and with our partner agencies (CAMHs, Social Services, Schools).
What are the required skills and experience are we looking for?
Essential
- Evidence of a core professional qualification and registration with associated governing body, e.g. Social Work England, Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Evidence of clinical and risk assessment for people experiencing a range of difficulties.
- Evidence of continuous CPD in specialist area.
Desirable
- Clinical and experience in a Child and Adolescent setting that demonstrates the appropriate competencies for the role. Familiarity with the NHS and Social Care agenda and national directives and strategy relating to service user safety and quality improvement.
- Understanding of the changing landscape of public sector organizations and the current pressures on external services.
- Experience of delivering specialist interventions in the assessment and care of children and young people with complex needs, developmental trauma and attachment difficulties.
This role will be 37.5 hours per week, part time applications will be considered and working pattern can be discussed. The role will be undertaken as a hybrid position with 1 day per week in the Hub office and the rest within relevant services as required. All candidates must have a full driving license and have access to the use of a car. Successful candidates will be required to provide an enhanced Disclosure (DBS).
