Education Outreach Support Worker

About our Organisation:

At Fair Ways we believe in making a difference through passionate care, support and education. Together we aim to build an institution that makes a difference to society and leaves a legacy greater than ourselves and our contributions. Our values sit at the heart of everything we do; we measure our wealth by the difference we make, rather than the profit we make.

About our exciting Opportunity:

Fair Ways are actively seeking motivated, caring and person focused Education Outreach Support Workers to join our dedicated team providing support and education to vulnerable young people within the community. This specialist support could be undertaken in a range of locations such as assisting students with time spent at college and in other further education environments such as libraries, parks, other open spaces and other appropriate learning locations.

All candidates must have a full driving license and have access to the use of a car. Successful candidates will be required to provide an enhanced Disclosure (DBS). This disclosure cost will be met by Fair Ways.

About our specialist service:

Education Outreach offers a wide range of educational and key skills focused support outside of the traditional school based environment. The service is bespoke to each young person we work with and as such, consistency of staffing is a major factor in planning for all support. Our community based students will be linked with one of our multi-site specialist schools tailored to supporting children with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social Emotional and Mental Health conditions (SEMH) and other behavioural needs. Education Outreach allows individuals tailored access to education focused on the individualised needs of each young person, without which, they may have no access to positive engagement with education at all.

  • The hours offered for roles can be flexible hours within the normal school day.
  • Travel time and mileage is paid in addition.
  • All visits are a minimum of two hours and can range up to whole days.
  • Education outreach Support Workers will never work less than a 2 hour duration as part of their shift pattern.
  • Our Outreach user locations are within Southampton and surrounding areas
  • A qualification within Education or Learning Support is desirable but certainly not essential – a passion to care for others and the ability to provide a high level of support and understanding are the most important factors.

Basic Job Responsibilities:

  • Providing flexible educational support in the community to young people with ASC, SEMH conditions and other challenging behaviours.
  • Completing and monitoring student assessments and participation in the implementation and delivery of each Individual Education Plan, in order to contribute to the achievement of the aims and objectives of each student.
  • Providing one to one support (unless two staff are required based on service user risk needs) and be proactive in planning and carrying out activities and skills development in the community setting.
  • Contributing, adhering to and regularly updating person centred care plans, risk assessments and management plans of the young people, in conjunction with colleagues and other professionals, to promote and safeguard their welfare.

Applicants will ideally possess the following personal skills:

  • Be able to build strong healthy relationships with service users and staff as appropriate.
  • Have experience of working and supporting children with social and emotional needs or have a good level of transferable skills from another sector.
  • Be resilient, forward thinking and adaptable
  • Either already have a Level 3 Teaching Assistant Award or equivalent or have a willingness to work towards one.
  • Demonstrate honest, understanding and proactive behaviour.
  • Ensure that standards are set by providing a good example and offering suitable support and direction.
