Fair Ways are looking for an Autism specialist Teacher to work as part of our fantastic teaching team at our specialist Autism School located in Totton. This individual will need to be an excellent classroom practitioner with a clear understanding of the provision necessary for successful learning and teaching with all academic levels but more specifically, our secondary age students that require educational support at a Key Stage 1/2 level.

We strongly believe in creating a person-centred programme to meet each child’s needs adapting a unique ‘autistic curriculum’. This not only captures the pupils learning needs but also addresses social, emotional and communication needs of children and young people with autism, and nurtures their independence and well-being. Students are placed with Fair Ways when most other mainstream or specialist schools have been unsuccessful. As such, they are likely to have been out of education for a long period of time, having exhausted multiple placements.

As an Autism specialist Teacher at our School you will be involved exciting and rewarding things like:

  • Ensuring a high standard of individualised lesson planning, delivery of lessons, marking of work and knowing when and how to differentiate appropriately using approaches which enable students to be taught effectively.
  • Supporting the Head of School and Deputy Head with the curriculum structure and implementation of Teaching and Learning strategies which demonstrate a critical understanding of developments within your subject areas, ensuring the subject curriculum is engaging to all students.
  • Participating in the implementation and delivery of each student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) and Personal Education Plan (PEP) by providing relevant data to monitor progress, set targets and plan lessons.
  • Understanding for the need to safeguard students’ wellbeing in accordance with statutory requirements, including Fair Ways policies and Government legislation.
  • Demonstrating an understanding of, and a willingness to learn, how the young people’s early life experiences and how such experiences may result in, or contribute to, severe challenging behaviour.

Successful candidates will be working a 37.5 per week, term time only.

All candidates must have a full driving license and have access to the use of a car. Successful candidates will be required to provide an enhanced Disclosure (DBS). This disclosure cost will be met by Fair Ways. 

You and your specialisms

Teaching roles within our frontline services help achieve our mission of making a difference through passionate care, support, and education. To support this, you will be required to have, or be working towards a minimum of the following qualification levels:

  • To hold, QTS / QTLS or equivalent teaching qualifications and / or be able to demonstrate the relevant experience in teaching.
  • Have experience of working and supporting children with Autism and associated needs or have a good level of transferable skills from another sector.
