Outpatient Nurse - Bank

The Riverside Clinic Outpatient Department consist of seven outpatient consulting rooms, one minor operations room and one phlebotomy room. The post holder is responsible for the day to day nursing needs of the department, ensuring the efficient and effective use of all recourses in order to deliver high quality, safe and effective patient care in an environment of continuous improvement.

This is a clinical role and the post holder will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe and evidence based clinical care, including phlebotomy and cannulation, assisting consultants with minor operations and procedures, wound management, injections, chaperoning, etc.

Duties and responsibilities

To assist on admissions from Outpatients Department to the ward

To work with all members of the multi professional team to develop services to ensure the effective provision of all aspects of clinical care are maintained at a high standard.

To contribute to and influence the total patient experience and journey through collaborative working and effective communications with all members of the multi-disciplinary team throughout the hospital.

To act as a role model in clinical practice

To adhere at all times to uniform and appearance policy

To ensure that high standards of cleanliness, tidiness and décor are maintained throughout the Outpatients Department and environmental standards are adhered to

To promote effective communication with external agencies to facilitate ongoing patient care

To assist Outpatient Lead to contribute towards the development, production and implementation of the departments objectives

Ensure that that at all times the team work in a safe and responsible manner by demonstrating a knowledge and understanding of all corporate Health and Safety policies and the implementation of safety measures including:

Ensuring that all patients have their needs assessed, that care plans are developed to meet these needs and are delivered in accordance with agreed policies and procedures

Ensure an ongoing welcoming, caring and safe environment is provided for the patients and their families

To be a competent practitioner delivering all aspect of care relative to their patient group leading innovation and demonstrating clinical expertise

To ensure approved manual handling techniques in delivery of safe patient care using procedures taught by the manual handling team, including the safe use of mechanical and non-mechanical manual handling aids.

To monitor and assist in the review of clinical standards and practice through collection of data within their clinical area, providing essential information within a timely manner

Communication and Relationships

To ensure effective communication within the team, both verbally and in written form - ensuring accurate, legible and holistic nursing records according to NMC guidelines

To facilitate and monitor training for junior staff in relation to communication strategies

To demonstrate sensitivity in dealing with complex and confidential information from patients, families and colleagues, providing advice and support when necessary

To participate in the supervision, training and effective mentorship of junior staff, (student nurses) and Health Care Assistants

To promote relevant research findings to support clinical practice and education within the department.

Ensure mechanisms are in place to seek patients views and are taken into account in decision making and care delivery within the department

To report to Outpatient Lead any nursing issues of significance or concern

To maintain sound and effective working relationships and communication with allhospital staff and consultants

To ensure that all clinical training requirements are fulfilled according to local requirements and the framework

To successfully complete the Immediate Life Support course on an annual basis, as per Group policy

To ensure personal continuing professional development (CPD) is maintained to comply with NMC registration, including Revalidation requirements

To ensure that all mandatory training is attended and completed within the required timeframes

To maintain and demonstrate current awareness regarding developments in nursing and service

To attend organisational meetings and functions, as required

To comply with all aspects of the Health & Social Care Act 2008 and ensure that the requirements of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) are met
