As a Computer Operator, you will be responsible for monitoring and controlling computer systems on a daily basis and will also provide 1st line Support when the Service Desk partners operating hours finish. You’ll need to be self-motivated and a confident communicator as you’ll be acting as the first point of contact and escalating issues when needed.   This is a 12hr shift based role (24 x 7) which does include a 10% shift allowance. It would, therefore, be highly beneficial if you have worked in a shift based role before.

Key skills and experienced required:

  • Basic knowledge of Wintel / PC Usage / Microsoft Outlook
  • An understanding and previous experience of using a call logging system
  • Previous experience working in a shift based Operations environment
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential
  • Able to build rapport with support teams, users and third party contacts.
  • Confidently able to work as part of a team and use own initiative to highlight potential issues.
  • Ability to produce reports using Excel and PowerPoint would be an advantage.
  • An understanding of ITIL would be desirable.

Howdens Joinery is a highly successful business, with more than 670 depots nationwide and more than 8,000 staff. Last year our sales reached circa £1.3 billion and we continue to experience significant growth and success. Despite our scale, Howdens remains a local business with traditional values.

We have a very competitive salary and benefits package including 25 days holiday increasing to 27 days after 5 years, annual company bonus and a contributory pension. There is also great coffee and other refreshments and snacks, onsite car parking, subsidised gym membership, exceptional social events such as go-karting tournaments and golfing trips and a friendly and supportive working environment. As well as the opportunity to develop within a high profile FTSE 250 company, you will be part of a rewarding organisation recognised for excellence in the workplace in the Sunday Times Best Companies to Work For
