Howdens Joinery are recruiting for a General Operator with FLT experience to safely manufacture a range of finished Melamine Faced Chipboards to the correct quality specification, which include all the following equipment. 

Siempelkamp Double Hydraulic Press, Raw board section, Paper loading station, Infeed Transfer Section, Press, Outfeed Transfer Section, Trimming Station, Quality Checking Station, Cooling arms/Star Turner, GRP board stackers, FLT Operating duties.   

The successful applicant will  have good communication skills with the ability to  confidently communicate with fork lift truck drivers, colleagues/team members, management and QC staff on day to day production, H&S and quality issues, you will also engage with the maintenance team regarding machine breakdowns and other issues which may arise. Forklift duties are part of the main tasks on the line and are carried out on a rotation system on each of the shifts.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Perform machine pre use safety checks
  • Setting up the machine in the allocated time frame using the specific SOP
  • Continuous monitoring of the machine during production
  • Product confirmations on MES
  • Performing detailed process quality checks in accordance with the area SOP Changing over when required
  • Weekly preventative maintenance
  • Performing minor adjustments when required
  • Ensure the area is maintained to the agreed housekeeping standards. 
  • Responsible for adhering to H&S standards
  • Meeting company quality standards, output of machines, housekeeping, PPMs and TPMS
  • Prioritising production liaising with colleagues/management when required in line with the 21day report
  • Communicate and cooperate with their manager on H&S issues

Highly organised, you will be required to plan and organise your tooling and equipment in order to operate the machinery safely, effectively and efficiently in line with the production plan,  Work to drawing specifications in order to produce product accurately and to the correct quality standards. Diagnostic and problem-solving skills used daily, continuously seek to improve the process. 

Manual handling equipment must be used to manipulate any loads or bulk materials in accordance with the manual handling training provided (must be trained and authorised to use any MHE). The specified PPE must be used when undertaking any physical tasks e.g handling sharp tooling, the successful applicant with have the ability to read and understand manual handling risk assessments specific to their task. 

A Team Leader, Group Leader and Operations Managers are available to discuss concerns if required. It would be desirable to hold IOSH Working Safely or equivalent, Manufacturing Operations, and be SAP and MES compliant.
