Application Delivery Engineer

Howdens Joinery are looking for an Application Delivery Engineer to work as part of our busy Trade and Digital Delivery  team to resolve issues and ensure the smooth operation of our core trade and digital applications.  Experience of working with K8 EPOS systems (Kerridge Commercial Systems) within an application support and  software development environment are essential for this role. We are flexible on the location for this position and it could be based in our Howden office in East Yorkshire , Croxley Office in Hertfordshire or Raunds/Northampton Offices in Northamptonshire.

As an Application Delivery Engineer, you will be service focused with a desire to deliver excellent customer service to our colleagues by improving processes through automation, innovation and continuous improvement.  A natural problem solver who is able to prioritise well, you’ll use your excellent judgement and analytical thinking to effectively respond to production incidents and drive recovery and mitigation.

We’re in the process of implementing SAFe and building up our in-house capabilities to deliver software to the business and as an Application Delivery Engineer, you’ll take an active part in the Program Increment (PI) Planning Sessions and provide regular updates on work during our daily stand ups.  In your role, you will also be maintaining and updating technical documents, preparing maintenance plans and triaging incidents and requests raised within the IT Service Management tool. 

As an Application Delivery Engineer, you will be required to work shifts.  The hours are 7.30am to 4pm when on shift and 9am to 5.30pm when off shift.  There will also be on-call responsibilities in rotation with other members of the delivery team and occasional travel to business sites.   Following government guidelines this role will be home based for the immediate future, however this will be reviewed as and when restrictions are updated.

Key skills and experience required (essential):

  • Experience of working with K8( Kerridge Commercial Sytems) EPOS systems.
  • Knowledge of Report Generator and DX Module.

Desired skills and experience :

  • SharePoint administration and configuration
  • Therefore information management system
  • Experience of working in a software development environment.
  • Good understanding database design, programming (SQL) and query optimisation.
  • Good understanding of Scrum and/or Kanban.
  • Experience of application performance monitoring tools and supporting deployed systems, using tools such as AppDynamics.
