Project Manager - Employability Programmes

Purpose of this role

We are seeking a Project Manager to oversee the running of, and continued growth, of IGD’s Employability programmes. Our programmes help people develop their skills for work and explore the range of careers available in the food and consumer goods industry. This year we trained 10,000 young people through our virtual workshops and work experience weeks. We have supported over 65,000 young people to date and will continue to grow in 2022, expanding our reach beyond young people in education to adults seeking employment.

Responsibilities of this role

  • Responsible for the project management of our employability workshops and work experience weeks, within the agreed project plan and budget to achieve set targets, maintaining a high-quality programme
  • Responsible for managing the operational relationship with our external provider, ensuring the achievement of key deliverables outlined in the project plan
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with companies in our industry to maintain and grow volunteer participation in our programmes.

Working within a small team, you will help deliver social impact as part of the People programmes team. Collectively we help attract people to our industry’s workforce, build the knowledge and skills of industry colleagues and help create inclusive workplaces where everyone can thrive. As part of IGD’s Social Impact Team, we help unite and inspire our industry to make a tangible difference on People, Health, Sustainability and Economics.

Knowledge/skills/qualifications required

  • At least 2-3 years’ experience of managing projects
  • Excellent organisational skills; proactive and confident to work with autonomy
  • Experienced in managing external providers and confident in holding others to account for deliverables
  • Strong relationship management skills and has experience of managing a diverse set of stakeholders internally and externally
  • Excellent communication skills; able to engage a wide range of professionals, including senior leaders
  • Understanding of the education, skills and early careers landscape is desirable but not essential

Reporting Structure

This role reports into the Employability Programmes Manager. The role has no direct reports.


We are operating a hybrid approach to working with a mix of home and office-based working. The exact nature of this can be agreed with the line Manager.
