Head of Marketing

The Head of Marketing  is responsible for creating, scheduling and executing all marketing activity required to achieve IGD’s commercial and charitable objectives. The role will turn the agreed business plan into an operational schedule, spanning all online channels (e.g. social media, email, websites, webinars) and offline channels (e.g. partnership networks, IGD events, printed materials). This spans all IGD’s business units and products and services.

The Head of Marketing is a pivotal role for IGD, responsible for using marketing to drive scale and impact in the charity side of the business and commercial revenue from our trading arm. We are looking for a candidate who will be able to get close to the fantastic work that happens across the organisation and translate that into compelling and engaging marketing activity. The role is also at the forefront of engaging with teams across the business including product, charity, events and communications at a senior level, so it is essential that the candidate is an excellent influencer, highly skilled and experienced in collaboration.  This role also oversees an 11 strong dynamic marketing team who are all highly engaged and keen to learn and develop, so experience in effectively leading and managing teams is also essential.

The Head of Marketing  will be a highly organised and commercial operator, able to forward plan as well as respond quickly to short term opportunities. The role will ensure that agreed marketing activity is executed on time and to quality, driving continuous improvement based on actionable insight.

The role

  • Full ownership, production and management of the short and long term marketing plan, activating the agreed business roadmap to achieve agreed charitable and commercial objectives
  • Overseeing the creation and scheduling of activity across all offline and online marketing channels including websites, email, print, social, webinars etc
  • Driving acquisition marketing activity (top of funnel)
  • Joining up marketing activity to maximise impact with customers through personalisation
  • Maximising customer retention and driving online usage
  • Identifying opportunities for cross sell / up sell activity
  • Planning and executing marketing activity at IGD and external events
  • Managing internal stakeholders and providing marketing updates
  • Working with the CRM team to produce target lists for outbound campaigns
  • Driving our partnership marketing strategy with external networks such as CGF and ECR Asia
  • Ownership of overall marketing spend
  • Driving continuous improvement based on actionable insights
  • Chairing internal meetings with business stakeholders to review progress versus agreed targets and the marketing plan
  • In-depth understanding of our customers and their challenges / priorities
  • In-depth understanding of our products and services
  • Providing input into the annual business planning cycle

Success measures:

  • Agreed financial and charitable targets
  • Number of leads generated for the business
  • Customer engagement metrics e.g. conversion and retention rates
  • Website usage (IGD.com and subscription services)
  • Customer feedback / satisfaction e.g. via survey data
  • Identifying and executing up-sell and cross-sell opportunities through content analysis
  • Lifetime customer value metrics

  • This role reports into the Communications and Marketing Director. Responsible for a team of 11. Direct reports include;
  • Senior Marketing Manager
  • Marketing Manager (charity)
  • Content Strategy Manager
  • Digital Content Writer
  • Analytics Manager
  • Telemarketing Manager x 2

Location

  • The candidate will be based at our head office in Letchmore Heath, Watford, Hertfordshire.

What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Understanding of and experience in the food and grocery industry
  • A proven collaborator, able to manage and influence multiple internal stakeholders at all levels
  • Experienced in digital marketing, preferably within B2B and/or Retail
  • Ability to drive change and embed meticulous planning skills within the marketing team
  • Commercially aware, customer-centric and results-driven
  • A desire for continuous improvement based on data and insight
  • A proactive, can-do mentality
  • Detailed knowledge of current digital marketing trends and best practice
  • Working knowledge of digital marketing automation technology – ideally dotdigital
  • Demonstrable track record of growing online marketing ROI for email, (SEO, PPC, and affiliates.)
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Experience working with and Microsoft Dynamics CRM to drive marketing segmentation
  • Excellent people manager with proven skills in development
  • Excellent presentation skills, able to effectively report back on and communicate sometimes complex results and concepts to all levels of the business
