Purpose of the job

  • Own and manage the delivery of specific programmes that support IGDs ambition to make healthy and sustainable diets easy and accessible for everyone
  • Stay informed of and contribute to relevant areas of UK food policy
  • Help manage and grow IGD’s network of external stakeholders related to your areas of responsibility to inform our approach and maximise impact
  • Act as an ambassador for IGD’s Health and Sustainable Consumption agenda both externally and within the organisation

Areas of accountability

Programme management

  • Responsible for owning and delivering specific programmes within IGD’s Health and Sustainable Consumption pillar (for example behaviour change research and intervention projects, nutrition labelling, reformulation, heathy eating in the workplace) ensuring annual targets are met within agreed budgets
  • Responsible for the development and delivery of relevant content for your programmes (published reports, presentation of results, briefing notes, toolkits, online content, etc.) in partnership with IGD colleagues, industry, delivery partners and external consultants
  • Develop your own expertise, analyse trends and monitor customer feedback across your areas of responsibility and recommend opportunities for future development and continuous improvement
  • Report on progress against KPIs for your areas of responsibility on a monthly basis - identifying risks, opportunities and recommending contingencies
  • Input to the annual business planning process for the Health and Sustainable Consumption pillar and help inform long term strategic planning

Stakeholder management and communication

  • Responsible for creating reports and technical guidance that supports industry in offering healthy, sustainable diets e.g. IGD technical guidance on fibre or consumer research Appetite for Change
  • Support management of industry working groups relevant to your programmes, ensuring they are highly engaged with IGD and help deliver impact
  • Work with colleagues across the Charity team and wider IGD to develop and maintain a network of external stakeholders to support your programmes
  • Represent IGD at external meetings, webinars and conferences as required
  • Work with the Marketing team to help develop effective communications plans for your areas of responsibility to raise awareness and drive engagement with our Health and Sustainable Consumption programmes
  • Raise awareness of Health and Sustainable Consumption activities across IGD, ensuring internal understanding and supporting colleagues where appropriate
  • Support the wider IGD team on nutrition and general scientific issues relevant to the food and grocery sector

Knowledge/skills/qualifications required

  • Experience working in/with the UK food and consumer goods industry within a nutrition, regulatory affairs or scientific, food-related area
  • Technical and/or policy experience across Health and/or Sustainable Consumption agendas
  • Strong project management skills - capable of working under pressure and adopting a flexible approach to meet changing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Experience managing a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Highly motivated with the ability to drive programmes forward
  • A team player with the ability to collaborate with colleagues across the organisation
  • Willingness to work across a broad range of Health and Sustainable Consumption issues
  • Excellent Verbal and Written Communication skills
  • Educated to degree level in food related science, nutrition  Sustainability or Behaviour Change discipline (desirable) or a related area

Reporting Structure

This role reports into the Head of Health and Sustainable Consumption. The role has no direct reports.


We are operating a hybrid approach to working with a mix of home and office-based working. The exact nature of this can be agreed with the line Manager. There will be some occasional UK travel.
