Retail Analyst

Working in the European retail research team, you’ll report to the Head of EMEA. You’ll play a key supporting role in developing and delivering industry-leading insights on the food and grocery industry.

  

The role

  • Help develop content on IGD’s Retail Analysis website, ensuring content is relevant for subscribers
  • Report on breaking news and industry developments in countries across Western Europe through succinct and timely news stories which highlight the implications for IGD’s customers
  • Manage through Datacentre, the latest facts and figures for a selection of retailers in Western Europe
  • Assist with meeting the research needs of IGD’s customers
  • Help create presentations on behalf of IGD for external events, including IGD conferences, our member seminars and industry events

 Reporting structure

  • You will report to the Head of EMEA. The role has no direct reports

 Location

  • You will be based at our head office in Letchmore Heath, Watford, Hertfordshire. There will be occasional international travel required in the future

The candidate

What you’ll need to succeed:

Knowledge: 

  • A good working knowledge of and keen interest to know more about the food and grocery sector
  • A good understanding of and desire to know more about European retailing
  • A strong interest in innovations and technological solutions that help improve the grocery sector
  • An excellent ability to find robust and credible sources of information

Skills:

  • Excellent writing skills and English language; ability to write in a concise and using IGD’s brand guidelines
  • Analytical and research skills; e.g. ability to work with PowerPoint and Excel
  • Excellent Microsoft skills and good at using Windows-based technology

  Qualifications:

  • Degree-level qualification
  • Ideally have some experience in the food and grocery industry, working for a retailer, manufacturing or consulting business in a research or analytical capacity
  • European retail experience a benefit. Either through direct experience of living and working in Europe or of providing research and consulting services across the region
  • A second (European) language would be beneficial
