Our Social Impact team are looking for ambitious people with the energy and passion to make tangible changes happen. You will own and manage the delivery of specific programmes within IGD’s Sustainability pillar to maximise our social impact.

You’ll help manage IGD’s network of external to inform our approach and maximise impact and you’ll be an ambassador for IGD’s Sustainability agenda both externally and within our organisation.

The responsibilities

Reporting into the Head of Sustainability, these include:

Programme management

You will be responsible for owning and delivering specific programmes within IGD’s Sustainability pillar (for example; climate change; food waste reduction; food surplus redistribution; sustainable packaging systems), ensuring annual targets are met within agreed budgets.

Project manage the delivery of IGD’s sustainable packaging systems programme within IGD’s sustainability pillar to maximise our social impact

Deliver and provide technical support in the delivery of projects within the sustainable packaging systems programme

Input into the delivery of wider IGD sustainability programmes (for example environmental labelling, climate change, food waste reduction and food surplus redistribution).

Help manage IGD’s network of external stakeholders relevant to your areas of responsibility to inform our approach and maximise impact

Act as an ambassador for IGD’s sustainability agenda both externally and within the organisation

Reporting on progress against KPIs for your areas of responsibility, on a monthly basis, you’ll identify risks, opportunities and recommend contingencies.

And you’ll be responsible for the development and delivery of relevant content for your programmes (reports, briefing notes, toolkits, online content, etc.) in partnership with IGD colleagues, industry, delivery partners and external consultants.

Developing your own expertise, you will analyse trends and monitor customer feedback across your areas of responsibility, recommending opportunities for future development and continuous improvement.

You’ll input to the annual business planning process for the Sustainability pillar to inform long-term strategic planning.

Stakeholder management and communication

Supporting the management of industry working groups relevant to your programmes, ensuring that they are highly engaged with IGD and help to deliver impact.

Working with colleagues across the Charity team and wider IGD to develop and maintain a network of external stakeholders to support your programmes.

Representing IGD at external meetings.

Working with the Marketing team to help develop effective communication plans for your areas of responsibility, to raise awareness and drive engagement with our Sustainability programmes.

Raising awareness of Sustainability activities across IGD, ensuring internal understanding and supporting colleagues, where appropriate.

What you bring

  • Experience of working in/with the UK food and consumer goods industry, within a Sustainability role
  • Experience managing a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Highly motivated, with the ability to drive programmes forward
  • Strong project management skills and capable of working under pressure and adopting a flexible approach to meet changing priorities
  • A team player with the ability to collaborate with colleagues across the organisation
  • The willingness and flexibility to work across a broad range of Sustainability issues
  • Excellent Verbal and Written Communication skills
  • Educated to degree level in Sustainability (desirable)

The location

We are operating a hybrid approach to working with a mix of home and office-based working. We are based in a very accessible location within the M25, just 20 miles from central London. 

There will be some occasional UK travel.
