Charity Communications Manager

IGD’s goal is to unite and inspire the food and consumer goods industry, to mobilise it as a force for good. By sharing knowledge with our industry, driving collaboration and delivering programmes on specific challenges, we aim to influence change, working across four key areas: people, health, sustainability and economics.

IGD’s Charity Communications Manager is responsible for creating and implementing communications and marketing strategies that support our vision of delivering social impact from IGD, driving greater scale, impact and engagement for the charity.

Reporting into the Head of Charity and Corporate Communications, the Charity Communications Manager will act as a brand guardian for the IGD charity, delivering initiatives across the entire spectrum of communications disciplines. This will include building campaigns, media activity, virtual events and marketing activity, focused primarily on digital channels and social media, all aligned to IGD’s wider corporate communications strategy.


Job Role

  • Use all communications disciplines to tell the story about IGD’s charity and the impact we create in society
  • Work as part of a cross-functional communications and marketing team to lead the communications agenda for each of the charity’s programmes
  • Plan and project manage multiple communications and marketing campaigns for the charity; work with colleagues in insight and analytics to track and measure success, using the insight to improve our communications and the stakeholder experience
  • Work closely with all charity stakeholders to co-create activities and initiatives; help to deliver against core charity scorecard KPIs
  • Work with the wider marketing, design and communications teams to optimise the charity’s digital presence across our website, email newsletters, social media and other online channels
  • Help drive the charity’s engagement and networking strategy, working closely with the engagement, insight and CRM teams to build targeted marketing campaigns
  • Develop a network of media contacts relevant to IGD’s charity, to drive impact and scale for our programmes of work; manage media campaigns for the charity and handle incoming media queries, alongside other members of the communications team

Knowledge/skills/qualifications required

  • Educated to degree level
  • Significant job role experience in marketing and communications disciplines
  • Competent user of digital marketing technology including websites, mailing programmes and social scheduling tools
  • Strong copywriting skills and ability to tell stories through writing
  • Good working knowledge of the media
  • Effective time management and the ability to work across multiple projects at once
  • An analytical mindset, with the ability to draw actionable insights from a variety of data
  • Knowledge of the FMCG industry advantageous but not essential
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and stakeholders
