Workshop Technician / Trainer - South Yorkshire

Location: JTL Training Centre South Yorkshire

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 depending on skills and experience.

Working pattern: Full time, 35 hours per week.

Job Purpose:

To provide technical support to the training centre, including practical support and delivery of workshop sessions and responsible for delivering AM2 Refresher in the Central region of England.

 

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Trainer:

  • Research, design and deliver training courses to external clients ensuring contractual compliance. For example, AM2 Refresher
  • Liaise with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) both internal, such as Operations, Product Development, Health and Safety and Quality Assurance or external, such as Awarding Organisations (AOs), to ensure all training accurately mirror current requirements
  • Design relevant end of training assessments, including on-line, to measure the competence of learners
  • Prepare standard statements and objectives and ensure that all modules are evaluated
  • Provide one to one job training and coaching to meet training needs which have been identified
  • Assess candidates working towards accredited qualifications to AO guidelines and assist in the establishment of the maintenance of required assessment CPD
  • Employ a continuous improvement approach using knowledge and experience to identify process enhancements

 

Workshop Technician

  • Maintain the workshop areas ensuring a safe, clean and tidy condition.
  • Employ safe working practices and comply with relevant Health and Safety regulations.
  • Maintain and replenish First Aid boxes throughout the designated workshops and act as the First Aider for the workshop.
  • Give practical support and delivery of workshop sessions and carry out preparatory works for the workshop sessions.
  • Ensure learner discipline is of the highest standards.
  • Ensure that the pastoral relationship with the learner actively safeguards and promotes their health, safety and welfare, especially in the case of young and vulnerable learners.
  • Maintain an inventory of all materials and equipment and inform appropriate staff of stock level requirements as necessary.
  • Carry out regular maintenance of the tools, equipment and the workshop.
  • In liaison with the Health & Safety Department check and maintain all routine Health & Safety records for the workshops.
  • Maintain accurate COSHH data sheets.
  • Responsible for the welfare and safety of apprentices at all times.
  • Actively engages in other such duties, under the discretion of manager as and when necessary.

 

Person Specification

Essential Requirements:

  • Level 3 Installing and Commissioning Electrical Systems & Equipment or equivalent or City & Guilds 2360 Part 1 and 2 certificates, or equivalent.
  • A relevant qualification relating to knowledge and understanding of the current edition of the BS 7671 IET Requirements for Electrical Installations.
  • Level 3 Certificate in Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations (2391 – 2394/5 or equivalent).
  • Verifiable post qualification, or apprenticeship, industry experience within an electrical services or facilities management organisation.
  • Proven and demonstrable knowledge of the AM2 assessment equipment, material and accessories or willing to undertake training

  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Working knowledge of the relevant IT systems
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to think and act independently
  • Good organisational ability
  • Good IT skills
  • Driving Licence and use of a car
  • Able to work as a part of the team, and be able to work using own initiative
  • Must have a positive attitude towards work

 

Desirable:

  • Recognised training or teaching qualification e.g., CTP, PGCE or equivalent to a minimum Level 3
  • Assessor qualification
  • Good working knowledge of the National Occupational Standards
  • Knowledge of Awarding Organisation requirements
