Location: Home based with national travel required.
Working pattern: Full time, 35 hours per week.

About the role
As Quality Improvement Officer (South), you’ll support the Quality Improvement Manager (South) to deliver JTL’s quality improvement strategy across centres, subcontractors, and workplace settings. You’ll carry out deep dive activities to evaluate and report on the quality and impact of teaching, learning, assessment, safeguarding, and the wider apprenticeship experience.
Whether you’re observing delivery, leading improvement conversations with staff, or reviewing data and apprentice feedback, you’ll take a hands-on and collaborative approach to raising standards. Your insight will directly inform action plans, support CPD development, and drive real improvements to the apprentice and employer experience.
This is a dynamic role that combines observation, coaching, analysis, and practical improvement work. It’s an opportunity to make a real difference to the quality of apprenticeships by identifying what works, what needs to change, and how to support colleagues to deliver their best.
About you
You’ll be a confident and experienced teaching and assessment professional with a strong understanding of what good and outstanding provision looks like in apprenticeship delivery. With experience in quality improvement activity such as observations, deep dives, action planning, and CPD you’ll be ready to support staff to develop their practice and raise standards across the board.
You’ll bring credibility, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. Just as importantly, you’ll be approachable and supportive, with the ability to work constructively with delivery teams to improve outcomes for apprentices. You’ll also be confident analysing data and apprentice voice feedback, and able to turn that insight into practical actions that drive real improvement.

This is a regionally based role, and applicants must live in the Midlands, East of England, South West, South East, or London. Regular travel across these areas is required to support quality improvement activity at JTL centres, subcontractors, and workplace settings.
Job Purpose:
The post holder will support the Quality Improvement Manager by conducting and reporting on a range of quality improvement activities within their respective region to ensure the successful implementation of JTL’s Quality Improvement Framework, across provision within JTL Centres, sub-contracted partners, and the workplace.
The post holder will conduct a range quality review activities to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of teaching, learning and assessment as well as careers information, advice and guidance and the wider apprenticeship curriculum in the South of England and Wales.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Perform deep dive quality activities across JTL Centres and sub-contracted partners to include, but not limited to; observation of teaching, learning and assessment activities, functional skills delivery, reviewing health and safety measures, safeguarding and on-site/workplace assessment and review activities.
- Carry out deep dives according to a strategic random and risk-based timetable to ensure regular and comprehensive observation of all delivery elements, ensuring consistent quality standards.
- Produce and submit reports and evidence of activities to support the production of detailed quality improvement reports, with action plans/SMART objectives and assign clear accountability for improvement.
- Lead regional quality improvement activities, working closely with Delivery Teams to monitor progress against action plans, supporting where required to ensure targets are met.
- Lead on, and support, coaching and mentoring activities to ensure that colleagues and apprentices are continuously learning and improving.
- Identify outstanding teaching, learning and assessment practices, and work closely with the Quality Improvement Manager and learning and development manager to establish a robust and adaptive CPD offer for regional teams.
- Regularly analyse and report on the compliance and quality of core delivery such as progress reviews, exit interviews, etc. Utilise data and findings to drive continuous improvement and enhance the employer and apprentice experience.
- Support the Quality Improvement Manager in identifying and applying key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics from the Apprenticeship Accountability Framework to evaluate risk and performance of Training Centres and subcontractors.
- Support and contribute to the moderation and standardisation of observation activities, ensuring teaching and assessment activities meet individual apprentice needs.
- Support targeted, high-quality training and development to individuals or groups of delivery staff to develop outstanding teaching, learning and assessment practice.
- Assist the Quality Improvement Manager and Curriculum Design Managers in developing quality, strategic, and evidence-based curriculum initiatives, ensuring alignment with industry standards and apprentice needs.
- Support the Quality Improvement Manager to collate and analyse a range of apprentice and employer feedback and triangulate findings and assess impact of our learning programmes on apprentices and employers.
- Deputise for the Quality Improvement Manager as required.
- Keep own knowledge up to date through regular CPD activities.
Person Specification:
Essential Requirements:
- Degree-level qualification or relevant industry experience
- Teaching level qualification and/or assessment qualification at level 4
- GCSE English A-C, 9-4, NVQ level 2, O Level A-D or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in improving teaching learning and assessment in apprenticeships
- Demonstrable experience of conducting a range of quality improvement activities and quality improvement processes
- Demonstrable experience of identifying outstanding teaching, learning and assessment practices and production of action plans/SMART objectives
- Working knowledge of safeguarding and health and safety legislation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Driving Licence
Desirable:
- Level 4 qualifications in either Electrical or Plumbing subjects
- Excellent IT skills
- Experience in a range of direct and subcontracted delivery models
