Learner Support Tutor (North East)
Location: Home based with regional travel required.
Working pattern/hours: Full time & permanent. Normal working hours are 35 per week, excluding 1-hour main meal break.
Salary: Up to £30,000 depending on skills & experience.

About the role
To provide tailored support for learners with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) undertaking technical qualifications. Collaborate with assessors, tutors and wider support networks to implement effective learning strategies and ensure learners achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Learner Support
- Manage a caseload of learners with ALN, providing support and guidance throughout the learner’s journey.
- Support learners to acquire the knowledge and skills they need to succeed and to achieve an ambitious curriculum.
- Develop and maintain robust Learning Action Plans, providing clear teaching and training recommendations suitable for all learning and working environments.
- Deliver direct, high-quality 1:1 and small group support to learners both remotely and face to face
- Advocate for Learner Support, advising learners and the wider support network of strategies to overcome barriers to learning.
- Recognise where further assessment or support may be necessary and engage with relevant specialists.
- Confidently analyse neurodiversity reports and provide encouraging feedback to engage learners to develop their knowledge and skills.
- Promote a culture of “achieving excellence” to ensure that every learner can realise their full potential.
Collaboration & Reporting
- Identify where additional learning support has been provided by the wider support network, gathering evidence on a monthly basis to enable Learning Support Fund (LSF) claims.
- Hold regular meetings with key stakeholders to ensure learners are fully supported and that support provided is documented and evidenced accurately.
- Attend regional meetings as a representative of the Learner Support Team, providing updates and additional support to the teams where required.
- Provide recommendations to regional teams and centres to ensure additional support is implemented effectively, throughout the learner’s journey.
- Work closely with those in the learner’s support network, both internally and externally to ensure a collaborative, joint-up approach is implemented throughout the learner journey.
- Monitor and maintain confidentiality and the sharing of information as appropriate.
Person Specification
Essential Requirements:
- A genuine interest and passion for providing exceptional learning support
- A teaching qualification at level 5 or above
- A minimum of GSCE C/4 grade in maths and English or level 2 equivalent
- Proven experience in a learning support/disability support role, ideally in FE
- Good working knowledge of Equality and Diversity related legislation, and in particular, disability legislation
- Good IT and communication skills
- Driving licence
Desirable:
- Knowledge and experience in apprenticeship training
