Software Development Engineer - TEST

The Premex Group are recruiting for a Software Tester to join our IT Team based in Bolton - Horwich. 

As a Software Tester within the Development team, you will be responsible for technical testing deliverables on a work packet across The Premex Group. You  will define best technical testing approach and designing, developing and testing the automation framework. 

Main Responsibilities and duties


  • Automate test plans for a significant component, set of features, mid-size application, or service.
  • Build scalable automation use cases/tools.
  • Able to work independently and with team to deliver test plans and test cases successfully.
  • Work is consistently of a high quality (e.g., thorough, thoughtful, data-driven) and incorporates best practices.
  • Write codes/scripts and automated tests that are maintainable and reusable.
  • Constructively identify problems and propose solutions, taking on projects that identify and mitigate risk while measuring software quality.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with team members and peers working on related software. Recognise discordant views and take part in constructive dialogue to resolve them.
  • Confidently train new team members about what your software does, how it is constructed, tested, and operates and how it fits into the bigger picture.
  • Contribute to the impact assessment, scoping and estimating of technical testing activity for work packets
  • Communicate testing approach and coverage back to business stakeholders to ensure these meet with the business requirement and risk appetite
  • Guide and mentor less experienced SDETs and Testers across the IT department
  • Maintain excellent awareness of industry methods, tools and techniques and recommend changes to the existing processes where appropriate
  • Participation in design and code inspections.
  • API level testing.
  • Ability to analyse automation frameworks suitable for projects
  • Perform manual testing, the scope of which will encompass all functionalities of services as a prequel to automation
  • Analyse test logs; create test reports, co-ordinate with stakeholders.
  • When production problems occur, respond efficiently and effectively to address issues to minimise business disruption.

Quality Assurance

  • Contribute to, and then own, the definition and monitoring of departmental Automation Testing standards, policies, processes and procedures
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of performance and quality measurement metrics.

What we ask of you and suitable qualities for this role

You should be able to work effectively across multiple change projects or change activities simultaneously. You will need to think analytically, be confident in presenting relevant and detailed information cogently. 

It is essential you are able to communicate in a clear and concise way - both written verbal. 

You'll need to be organised with excellent time keeping and the confidence and ability to prioritise work with in set deadlines. 

Essential experience; 

GCSE passes with functional skills. 

Preferred experience/ Qualifications 

  • 5+ years in coding experience in JAVA and/or C# 
  • Experience in a development environment in test - working on large scale projects
  • Coding skills in JAVA - C# or C++ on Windows/Unix/ Linux platforms. 
  • Experience with JSON, XML, XSD, WSDL, SWAGGER and SOAP
  • Knowledge and skills beneficial to the role - 
  • 4+ years coding experience in OOP language
  • Selenium Webdriver
  • API Automated testing

Desirable - 

ISTQB Testing Qualification 

2:1 Degree or above in Software Engineering related subject 

Experience writting or enhancing test harness/framework is desired

Previous experience working Test Driven Development and continuous integration. 

Bachelors degree or 4+ years working in QA - Developing Automated tests for Web based products. 

Automation Development experience with products.
