The Air Traffic Engineer is accountable to the Senior Air Traffic Engineer for the maintenance and repair of navigational, communication and meteorological safety related equipment associated with Air Traffic operations at Leeds Bradford Airport.

 

Additionally, the role works closely with and supports the Engineering department in respect of contractor control, working closely with external contractors and business partners.

The role sits within our highly skilled engineering department, operating across the whole airport. The main aspects of the role are: -

 

  • To ensure the safe provision of Air Traffic Services and associated procedures, in compliance with regulatory and local documentation.
  • The Provision, maintenance and repair of Radar, Navigational Aids, Communication and Meteorological equipment used by Air Traffic Control Operations
  • To hold a valid LBA Airside driver’s qualification
  • To ensure that equipment under the responsibility of the Air Traffic Engineering department is maintained in accordance with approved maintenance procedures.
  • To monitor the status of the equipment under the responsibility of the Air Traffic Engineering department and notify the Duty ATCO & SATE as soon as practicably possible, of any degradation to normal operation, or incident likely to disrupt aircraft movements, company business or give rise to public interest.
  • To undertake day-to-day supervisory duties for the operation of Air Traffic Engineering department, ensuring scheduled maintenance inspections allocated for the shift period are completed, outstanding faults & maintenance are progressed and the accurate completion of all documentation.
  • To maintain a legible and accurate account of the day’s events in the Engineering log and familiarize themselves with previous entries.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of departmental instructions, procedures and regulatory requirements pertaining to the equipment under the responsibility of the department.
  • To undertake and complete training courses detailed by the Senior Air Traffic Engineer including training on technical equipment required to satisfy certification and competency.
  • To maintain equipment competency as specified by their training Program.
  • Maintain and configure LBA’s telecommunication system.
  • To ensure a working knowledge of risk assessment and apply the appropriate standards of Health & Safety.
  • Ensuring the reporting and investigation (as applicable) of all safety incidents in accordance with the LBA procedures.
  • To Design, construct, install and maintain ancillary equipment as may be required from time to time as directed by the Senior Air Traffic Engineer. Prepare documentation in support of submission of such equipment for CAA SRG approval
  • To resolution of any urgent operational matters in the absence of the Senior Air Traffic Engineer and within your competence.
  • To undertake specific duties allocated or delegated by the Senior Air Traffic Engineer
  • To maintain the highest possible standards, professionalism and customer focus when representing the department and the Airport.

 

 

What we are looking for:

 We are currently seeking a highly skilled individual to join our team in the role of Air Traffic Engineer. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in electronic systems within an Air Traffic Engineering Environment, including expertise in primary/secondary radar, instrument landing systems, distance measuring equipment, digital voice switch, and associated transmitters and receivers. A solid understanding of safety and Quality Management Systems is essential, along with strong motivational and interpersonal skills to thrive in a collaborative team setting. The successful candidate must be adept at both strategic and tactical approaches to ensure efficient maintenance of operational systems and projects. A minimum National Certificate in Electronics or equivalent qualification is required, along with proficiency in computer literacy. Additionally, the ability to obtain and retain UK CAA Personal Technical Certificates (PTC) is necessary. Excellent interpersonal skills are crucial for fostering effective teamwork, and the candidate should demonstrate the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure. This is an extremely varied and exciting role – The hours are designed to maintain an engineering presence and support for ATC operations in line with the ‘ATE Support Guidelines’ (MATE/3/SOP 14) that includes an on-site roster pattern between 08:00 – 18:00 (local times) and off-site support between 18:00 – 08:00 (local times) in line with the ‘Additional Hours Policy’.

 

All applicants will undergo a full vetting process which will include a 5 year checkable work history within the UK, a criminal records check and other necessary checks relevant to this role.

 

As this role requires a CTC clearance, applicants must have resided in the UK for a minimum of 3 years.
