Purpose of role

 

The primary function of this position is to source, develop and maintain relationships with innovative businesses in North America that are considering expansion into Europe. In this role you will promote London as the preeminent base for European operations and connect these businesses with our commercial partners who will assist them in establishing a presence in London.

 

Another key part of this role is to work with London companies exploring opportunities across the US and Canada including through trade missions from London, and to contribute to the planning of these visits and those by dignitaries and senior representatives from London.  Additional tasks will be assigned as required with the overarching goal of facilitating investment and trade between London and North America. 

In addition to the above this position provides administrative support to the team, including CRM maintenance, internal reporting, travel arrangements and general support as needed. 

The role enables engagement with senior leaders from the private and public sectors in North America and London. It also provides the opportunity to build expertise in our core sectors and forge relationships with key stakeholders in your region and in London.

Key tasks

FDI Lead Generation

 

  • Identify, engage and build relationships with senior stakeholders at companies in the region who are considering expansion into Europe. These will primarily be across our core sectors: Finance, Business Services & Technology, Creative, Innovation & Life Sciences, and Urban.
  • Develop a firm understanding of tech industry trends and key business strengths of your target cities.
  • Manage relationships with local economic development agencies, accelerators and other stakeholders.
  • The successful candidate will be required to think independently and develop their own lead generation strategy.

 

Trade Programs

 

  • As a secondary function, you will support Mayor’s International Business Programme (MIBP) trade missions across going to locations across North America. These missions consist of London’s most innovative tech scale-ups and you will assist in initial planning, coordinating with local economic development agencies and corporate buyers, logistics and additional activities as required. 
  • Act as an expert on your region and advise London-based companies as they start to plan their expansion into the US and/or Canada.

 

Business Development Support

 

  • Working with senior colleagues in client meetings.
  • Creating client presentations.
  • Assisting in marketing campaigns.
  • Schedule planning for senior members of the London & Partners’ team.
  • Maintaining the CRM system (Salesforce) and other reporting tools.
  • Managing general admin and reporting data.


Skills & Experience

 

The successful candidate will have the following skills:

 

  • Background: a minimum of 1-2 years experience in a sales or marketing environment and enjoy working in a target driven business.
  • Lead Generation: proven experience of generating leads through own efforts, networking, email campaigns, etc.
  • Computer Literate: knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is essential. Experience with Salesforce is preferable.
  • Enthusiasm & Drive: bringing energy and positivity to the role.
  • Mobility & Flexibility: Occasional travel throughout the US, Canada and potentially the UK, will be required. This role is based in New York and requires a combination of in-person and remote working.  Candidates must have the right to reside and work in the US.

 

Desirable:

 

  • Presentation Skills: should be able to pitch and present to a range of audience sizes.
  • Sector Knowledge: should be able to demonstrate enthusiasm for emerging tech sectors and be able to liaise credibly with stakeholders at disruptive companies.
  • London/UK: knowledge, experience and passion for London is highly desirable. You should be motivated by the goal of strengthening business links between North America and the UK.
