Inward Investment Manager - 6 Month Contract

Background

London & Partners is the Mayor of London’s official promotional agency. We promote London and attract businesses, events, congresses, students and visitors to the capital. Our aims are to build London’s international reputation and to attract investment and visitor spend, which create jobs and growth.

It is our privilege to promote London around the world, working in partnership with the Greater London Authority (GLA), Department of Trade & Investment (DIT), VisitBritain and other destination marketing organisations, the London boroughs and many other key stakeholders, as well as our 1,000-plus private sector partners.

Our target audiences are leisure and business tourists, the travel trade, event organisers, overseas businesses and investors, and prospective higher education students. Our marketing and promotional activities are designed to encourage visits, investments and spend in London now, as well as building London’s reputation to support its long term success. Our mission is to tell London's story brilliantly.

We are a not-for-profit public private partnership, funded by the Mayor of London and our network of commercial partners.

Purpose of role

 

This a 6-month temporary role to support the winning and delivery of new FDI projects into London, focusing particularly on the Creative and Financial, Business Services & Technology (FBST) sectors, including sub-sectors such as:

  • Creative:
    • Online games and Esports
    • Adtech and marketing
    • Architecture, design, film, publishing
    • Fashtech, RetailTech and Ecommerce
    • VR and AR
  • FBST:
    • Financial and Business Services
    • Fintech
    • Telecoms
    • InsurTech
    • RegTech

    • Cyber Security
    • Blockchain
    • LegalTech and HR Tech

Key tasks

 

  • Work closely with our in-market colleagues to help nurture, develop and then successfully convert inward investment projects into wins by:
  1. Advising on bespoke client propositions, discussions and meetings
  2. Sharing sector knowledge and expertise, as well as access to networks such as industry leaders, trade bodies, universities and other centres of sector excellence
  3. Working with our commercial partners to provide expertise on the opportunities and practicalities of expanding into London
  4. Developing bespoke visit programmes for contestable projects
  • Monitor delivery of pipeline activity, contributing to reporting on Salesforce and tracking on a regular basis with the ability to provide a clear view of the project pipeline and working with the team to take remedial action, as appropriate.
  • Support in-market colleagues with their activities to find new leads for our FDI pipeline.
  • Support cross-company Creative and FBST activities, working with colleagues in the Business Tourism and Major Events (attracting new events to London), and Trade & Growth (helping London-based companies to scale and expand internationally).

Person specification

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

 

  • A track record of working in a business-to-business sales environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/spoken communication skills.
  • Track record of hands on project management, from inception to delivery, in business to business environment.
  • Great listening skills, combined with commercial awareness and nous, so that we can make sure our support is well targeted and helpful.
  • Understanding of inward investment and its impact on economic development.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience working within the Creative and/or FBST sectors would be very helpful.
  • Knowledge of Salesforce CRM would also be an advantage.
