 Purpose of role 

 The purpose of the role is to enable L&P to deliver the sustainability aspects of its mission including it’s application for attracting investment into London and supporting businesses to scale internationally.

This head role is responsible for maintaining and delivering L&P’s Sustainability strategy – a thought leader role on sustainability with the strategic understanding of how to apply it in L&P as well as the business sectors (including tourism) that L&P supports. It is also responsible for developing and implementing the FDI sector strategy and leading on stakeholder engagement which contributes to the delivery of our Gross Value Added (GVA) targets, with direct accountability for the foreign direct investment (FDI) sector target. 

 Key Tasks 

  •  Lead the development of a cohesive and integrated sector strategy, including annual business plan, objectives and KPIs, working with the senior management team, including the MD Business, Director FDI and Director Trade & Growth.
  • Identify, nurture and manage the engagement with key influencers and stakeholders in this sector in London and work with the international teams to identify and nurture key sector stakeholder relationships in our core markets, in order to build London & Partners’ reputation in the ecosystem.
  •  Maintain and apply L&P’s sustainability strategy in line with the organisation’s mission to create economic growth that is resilient, sustainable and inclusive.
  • Apply the insights and intelligence that help shape the Trade & Investment strategy for the sustainability (urban) sector and informs how the company supports London’s tourism industry in its sustainability efforts.
  • Gather intelligence on best practice on net zero from an organisation perspective to drive L&P’s net zero journey.
  •  To develop and maintain strong relationships, and build partnerships, with key stakeholders across public and private sector, primarily within London/the UK.
  •  To lead the team to deliver the business engagement activities to enable the growth of the green economy in line potential commercial sponsorship activities the company may engage in.
  •  Lead the team to design and deliver the business engagement activities in line with the roadmap and business plan.
  •  Influence and work collaboratively with a matrix team across London & Partners who can, together, work towards achieving the goals for L&P’s net zero journey.

 

 You'll be/have: 

 

  • Knowledge and understanding of urban innovation sector, including but not limited to smart mobility, cleantech, proptech and govtech, sustainability or how corporates design and implement net zero strategies
  • Demonstrable track record of success in business, including building strong relationships with C-suite level leaders and influencers, ideally with an established network in this sector and/or international or global business environment
  •  Experience in public speaking, including presenting and moderating
  •  Able to establish good relationships with both internal and external networks that work to mutual benefit.
  •  Able to achieve plans and objectives though creative and considered thinking and a positive and innovative approach to problem solving, creative and strategic thinking
  •  Able to demonstrate resilience and adapts positively within the context of ambiguous and fast changing priorities and cultural agendas.
  •  Able to build and manage a high performing team through building trust, co-operation and constructive dialogue

PURPOSE OF ROLE

KEY TASKS

FDI & Trade (Business Growth) delivery

 

  • Lead the development of a cohesive and integrated sector strategy, including annual business plan, objectives and KPIs, working with the senior management team, including the MD Business, Director FDI and Director Trade & Growth.
  • Identify, nurture and manage the engagement with key influencers and stakeholders in this sector in London and work with the international teams to identify and nurture key sector stakeholder relationships in our core markets, in order to build London & Partners’ reputation in the ecosystem.
  • Engage with relevant departments within the Greater London Authority to align our strategy with the Mayor’s business and economic development priorities, including management of our relationship with London’s Chief Digital Officer.
  • Develop and share in-depth sector knowledge and expertise; monitor and report on issues affecting sector development in London; and serve as a go-to-person for information on policy and strategic issues for this sector. 
  • Lead the FDI sector team to deliver contestable projects for London and achieve output targets, contributing GVA to the overall business directorate target.

 

Sustainability thought Leadership and Intelligence

  • Maintain and apply L&P’s sustainability strategy in line with the organisation’s mission to create economic growth that is resilient, sustainable and inclusive.
  • Apply the insights and intelligence that help shape the Trade & Investment strategy for the sustainability (urban) sector and informs how the company supports London’s tourism industry in its sustainability efforts.
  • Gather intelligence on best practice on net zero from an organisation perspective to drive L&P’s net zero journey.
  • Drive forward the internal plans for L&P’s net zero journey ensuring the organisation is addressing its own policies and processes to meet the necessary commitment to contribute towards net zero.
  • To provide advice to the Marketing & Communications team at L&P to maintain our compelling narrative for London on sustainability that can be used to tell London’s story internationally and domestically.

 

External engagement & representation

 

  • To develop and maintain strong relationships, and build partnerships, with key stakeholders across public and private sector, primarily within London/the UK.
  • To represent London/London & Partners on sustainability/net zero at senior level round tables, external events.
  • To inform and share the latest developments on sustainability and Net Zero with the Senior Leadership Team in order to drive forward the sustainability element of the mission of the organisation.

 

Client engagement

  • To lead the team to deliver the business engagement activities to enable the growth of the green economy in line potential commercial sponsorship activities the company may engage in.
  • Develop clear plans to drive forward the growth of green businesses in cohorts within London & Partners existing business programmes as well as future replacement programmes with clear measurements and tools to track impact.

 

Financial Management/Commercial delivery

  • Lead the team to design and deliver the business engagement activities in line with the roadmap and business plan.
  • Manage the budget for the sector.

 

Leadership and team management

  • Influence and work collaboratively with a matrix team across London & Partners who can, together, work towards achieving the goals for L&P’s net zero journey.
  • Lead and motivate the matrix team to achieve results against goals set for the organisation and for London and direct line management of the Senior Investment Manager within the FDI sector team

  • Knowledge and understanding of urban innovation sector, including but not limited to smart mobility, cleantech, proptech and govtech, sustainability or how corporates design and implement net zero strategies
  • Demonstrable track record of success in business, including building strong relationships with C-suite level leaders and influencers, ideally with an established network in this sector and/or international or global business environment
  • Experience in public speaking, including presenting and moderating
  • Experience in cross-business working to achieve challenging goals
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Knowledge of CRMs would be an advantage
