Purpose of role   

The Business Growth Manager plays a key role in the delivery of the Business Growth Programme (BGP), a London & Partner’s initiative funded by the Mayor of London and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and in helping London’s small businesses to grow.  

 

You will develop the BGP Financial, Business Services and Technology sector strategy in collaboration with the Head of the Programme and work directly with Founders/CEOs of Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to assess their business needs and challenges and provide them with tailored advice, guidance and support including valuable introductions within the London ecosystem. You will develop and manage key stakeholder relationships and create collaboration opportunities with corporates to deliver open innovation initiatives.  

 

You will lead the delivery of activities for London Leaders’ Network, a support programme for entrepreneurs and business leaders who are part of the London & Partners business community. 

 

You will work directly with the Head of the Programme, alongside other Business Growth Managers, the Programme Manager and will line manage a Business Growth Executive. 

 

Key tasks  

 

  • Create and implement a strategy in collaboration with the Head of the Business Growth Programme to deliver Financial, Business Services and Technology team targets and contribute to the wider company outputs. 
  • Lead the recruitment process of SMEs within the sector and create a portfolio of projects for the successful delivery of four cohorts annually.  
  • Manage a pipeline of opportunities within the sector and the delivery of completions to contribute to the growth of the BGP Alumni community.  
  • Work alongside Founders/CEOs of SMEs to provide them with tailored advice, guidance and support including valuable introductions within the London ecosystem.  
  • Influence build and nurture relationships with key players within London’s Urban, Innovation and Life Science ecosystem, such as corporates, associations, high net worth individuals, investors, and colleagues to support the delivery of the BGP and wider company activities.  
  • Design, develop and deliver a range of sector-focused events that are of value to the Programme, working strategically with London & Partner’s Head of Sector and sector teams where possible. 
  • Ensure accurate recording of data on CRM and participating companies’ forms in compliance with ERDF and GDPR.  
  • Manage, coach and develop the Business Growth Executive, including monitoring of workloads and conducting appraisals.  
  • Negotiate opportunities to shape and contribute to a dynamic programme of content, a growing mentors and strategic partners network. 
  • Identify and develop relevant sector partnerships, including but not limited to events and campaigns, to help deliver revenue (cash or in-kind) for the organisation and contribute to sector targets. 
  • Lead or contribute to team’s improvement projects;  
  • Represent the BGP Team, the Trade and Growth Directorate and London & Partners at events, where required.  
  • Deputise for the Head of the Business Growth Programme where required. 
  • Lead the curation, delivery and community engagement of the London Leaders’ Network, a support programme for entrepreneurs and business leaders who are part of the London & Partners business community.

Skills 

 

  • Education: Business degree or equivalent professional experience, minimum of 3 years 
  • Good understanding of delivering business support and the challenges small businesses face.  
  • Knowledge or appreciation of the sectors and the London ecosystem.  
  • Experience in public speaking, including presenting and moderating 
  • Experience in cross-business working to achieve challenging goals  
  • Experience in curating high impact activities to meet the needs of the clients 
  • IT: Experience using the Microsoft Office suite of products is necessary.  Knowledge of CRM Salesforce would be an advantage.
