Purpose of role 

The role is to lead the Innovation and Life Sciences (ILS) sector Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) work and  to deliver expert advice to companies looking to internationalise and grow in London and to support them to invest in London as smoothly, seamlessly and quickly as possible.  The sector includes but not limited to Biotech, Pharmaceuticals, Medtech through to thematic areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, Healthy Ageing, Mental Health & Wellbeing and Oncology

Key Tasks 

  • To lead the ILS FDI sector team to provide the best possible service to the international clients looking to invest in London. Ensure the service offered by the teams is aligned with the L&P mission to generate economic growth that is resilient, sustainable and inclusive.
  • To line manage, coach, develop and motivate the ILS FDI sector team (Senior Investment and Inward Investment Managers) to deliver against KPIs and to identify personal development opportunities for team members.
  • To lead the development and delivery of a cohesive and integrated sector business plans, objectives and KPIs, the sector includes but not limited to Biotech, Pharmaceuticals, Medtech through to thematic areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, Healthy Ageing, Mental Health & Wellbeing and Oncology
  • To manage the ILS sector FDI pipeline (contestable & non-contestable) and monitor and review the delivery service in terms of volumes and workload, partner engagement and client satisfaction.
  • To develop and share in-depth sector knowledge and expertise and to lead on development of sector messaging, including sales propositions and website content, to present a clear and consistent sectoral narrative
  • To build strong relationships with the FDI partners, in collaboration with the commercial team and ensuring that the team delivers referrals to partners in line with the agreements, ensuring equitable split where necessary and tracking the referrals throughout

 You'll be/have: 

  • Knowledge and understanding of the Innovation, Life Sciences and/or AI sectors and London’s proposition in this sector
  • Demonstrable track record of success in business, including building strong relationships with C-suite level leaders and influencers, ideally with an established network in this sector and/or international or global business environment
  • Experience in public speaking, including presenting and moderating
  • Experience in cross-business working to achieve challenging goals
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Knowledge of CRMs would be an advantage

The salary for this role has been approved as advertised in line with our pay structure.  We will not negotiate or vary this figure upon offer or appointment.

The role is to deliver sustainable and inclusive growth for London from the Innovation and Life Sciences sector FDI clients, to manage the ILS sector FDI pipeline and deliver GVA from all contestable and non-contestable FDI projects and from both new and existing investors.

The FDI Lead is responsible for developing and implementing the FDI plans for the Innovation and Life Sciences sector and leading on wider sector stakeholder engagement and where relevant taking a lead on sub-sector(s)

  • To identify and develop relevant sector partnerships, including but not limited to events and campaigns, to help deliver revenue (cash or in-kind) for the organisation and contribute to sector targets
  • To identify, nurture and manage the engagement with key influencers and stakeholders in this sector in London and work with the international teams to identify and nurture key sector stakeholder relationships in our core markets, in order to build London & Partners’ reputation in the ecosystem
  • To build strong relationships with the FDI partners, in collaboration with the commercial team and ensuring that the team delivers referrals to partners in line with the agreements, ensuring equitable split where necessary and tracking the referrals throughout
  • To support management of our operational relationship with the Department for International Trade and Investment Services Team
  • To engage with relevant departments within the Greater London Authority to align our sector work with the Mayor’s international business and economic development priorities
  • To lead the development of an integrated and collaborative xxx sector matrix team across the organisation, working with colleagues from trade, investment, business tourism, marketing and insights.
  • To support the international teams to strengthen their sectoral knowledge, ensuring they have the tools to successfully identify, nurture and develop new project leads for the creative industries sector and converting these project into wins for London.
  • To undertake any other projects or special assignments which may from time to time be required

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

Skills:
