Qualified Accountant / Tax Manager

Our central Bristol office is recruiting for an experienced Qualified Accountant / Tax Manager to join the team.  The actual job title is Trust Manager.  This is an exciting and rare opportunity to work in a fairly niche area and develop highly sought after skills.

The person will be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients and handling all accounting and tax compliance for those clients.  The client portfolio will comprise mainly trusts but may also include some personal tax clients.  This role would also suit an audit manager who is looking to work in a fixed location and apply their skills in a new area of accountancy and taxation.

The role is based in the Bristol office but will require some travel to the head office in Exeter as necessary.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage approximately 80 clients comprising mainly trusts but possibly some personal tax clients as well
  • Regular communication with clients
  • Manage workload without close supervision
  • Report directly to the partners
  • Preparation of high quality trust accounts from start to finish
  • Preparation of trust tax returns from start to finish
  • Preparation of personal tax returns from start to finish (as required)
  • Trust administration
  • Other ad hoc tasks as required by the partners

Essential:

  • Professional accountancy qualification - ACCA, ACA or CIMA
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles
  • Several years' experience preparing high quality accounts from start to finish
  • Experience managing a portfolio of clients
  • Ability and desire to 'get things done'
  • Ability and desire to meet targets and deadlines

Desirable:

  • Previous experience with trust accountancy and taxation
  • Previous experience completing personal tax returns
  • Professional tax qualification - ATT or CTA

The Candidate:

  • Highly motivated
  • Team player
  • Take responsibility for their work without much assistance
  • Follow instructions given by the partners and other senior staff
  • Highly professional at all times
  • Excellent communicator
  • Prioritise work correctly
  • Meet financial targets based on chargeable hours
  • Fast learner
